This would have been one of my favourite jobs to date if it weren't for the god awful management. All of the regular employees are so friendly and helpful, the job itself can be tougher work, but I always found it to be somewhat fun. However, it's like pulling teeth to get the managers to train you when you first start, we had 3 girls including myself start at the same time, and they only had the energy to train one of us (between the 4 of them) leaving the other two to basically guess what our daily tasks would entail. The managers themselves rarely did anything at all besides take constant smoke breaks. The managers here also have some of their children working for them, and would take their daughters out of the rooms they were cleaning for smoke breaks and leave the other regular employees to pick up the slack, this was at least once per hour for 20 minutes or so. They often stuck me in Laundry which was not what I was hired to do, but the woman in the main laundry room (who was not even a manager) was one of the only people who bothered trying to train anyone at all. Overall, the job was fun, but they give you little to no guidelines to start, and genuinely don't care about their employees. 

Overall a fun job if you can put up with doing other people's work all day long, and putting up with extremely rude bosses!

I read lots about Kingfisher and sometimes it feels the bad comments are unfair. I cannot answer for all departments, but I can share what my experience is as a current employee. My experience is mostly positive! I show up to work, I respect my colleagues priorities, I try to understand why some decisions are made, we, as a group work towards a result. Kingfisher does not work around my person, indeed I do adapt to my workplace and make sure I understand where and how I can be of support to make my collaboration last. If I want a change to happen, I am given the opportunity to speak up. It is a work relationship and It works. I witnessed that, if you are showing your willingness to support, and if you are professional, you are treated well and with respect, you may need a bit of time but time is all we have ! Of course there is always better somewhere else and there are a lot of moving pieces here, but if you want to, you can. Just show up at work, do not abuse the sick calls, support your co workers and do your job, and it will all go well, tips are great and this is always welcome ! 

The Kingfisher is a renowned place and all my co-workers are great. However the company has gone through many management changes which has caused it to loose structure. There are many little mistakes being made that can be avoided and some may affect the companies image. 

The hardest part of the job is seeing things go wrong "being the little guy" and not being able to voice suggestions for change because they knowingly wont be addressed.

A typical day at work is coming into chaos, no expectations for shift to shift transitions, little communication and this causes unnecessary daily stress. It has been a trend lately for a manager to come up and say I know today was crazy but we got through it so thank-you. This is ok once in awhile but when things aren't being done to fix those 'crazy days' then it will keep continuing, This is what the hardest part of my job is. 

The most enjoyable part is meeting all the new guests at the resort; hearing where they are from and reliving the beauty of the place through their eyes. Also with providing my exceptional customer service I can make a positive impact on their vacation and time on Vancouver Island.

I've been with the Kingfisher since 2017, starting as a Front Desk Agent and then progressing to a Front Desk Supervisor. In 2019, I was offered the position of Payroll Administrator. Over the years I've had the pleasure of growing both personally and professionally, thanks to the supportive environment.

I've had several bosses and many, many coworkers, and everyone has been a joy to work with. All the managers I've had have been pleasure to work for, I've found them to be fair and approachable. My coworkers have all been friendly and, honestly, fun to be around. Most of the guests/customers are happy and excited to be here, which makes the job even more enjoyable.

The location and grounds are lovely. Although the staff-only areas could use a little work, the front-facing areas are beautiful and seem to be constantly upgraded. I also love the restaurant discount, and my wife is a big fan of the spa and Hydropath.

Over all I loved working here. It was always so rewarding to be able to resolve conflicts for guest satisfaction!! It felt like everyone in my department got along well and wanted to include me right away. As there is in every job there was conflict between some employees, and sometimes it felt like I was to "Pick a Side" in order to be accepted (which was difficult, as I was a new piece in what felt like a very old game, and hadn't really had a bad experience with either party).  Time off requests were always accepted and there were always lines of communication open with management about scheduling, training, or anything else! The departments all communicated clearly, constantly, and effectively with each other to clear up any inconvenience.

I will say that almost everyone I knew from work had a second job in order to keep up with general living expenses. 

The Employee Discount at the restaurant and spa made it easy for my partner and I to enjoy luxurious dates we otherwise would never be able to afford!

It is no secret the Kingfisher Resort has the highest employee turnover rate in the Comox Valley. When a business is constantly hiring in all departments, all year round, that's a big red flag. Management and pay are the issues. They pay you the bare minimum but expect you to give it 110%. They refuse to give you a living wage and over work you right away due to staff shortages and people quitting weekly. Management and the owner are all about making money (for themselves) not actually addressing the issue, which is that they can't keep staff. The management team does not listen to employees nor care to. Myself and others have personally sent emails with concerns and have never received a response. If you are looking for longterm employment, this is not the place. Over 50% of hires leave in the first 3 months. 

I enjoyed my years at the Kingfisher.  I was there during the years the resort went from 30 rooms to 94 luxurious suites.  It was a very exciting time.

Typically I would iron table linens, check rooms and make schedules.  I would check rooms and all public areas.  I often cleaned the meeting rooms and did "spring cleaning" as needed.

I hired and trained my staff and developed a professional "Housekeeping Manual"

I had the opportunity to cross train in the night audit, balancing and banking.

There was no hardest part to this job.

Upper management has no respect for their staff. Long term employees are leaving because the wages here are not fair compared to other similar businesses in the comox valley(that don’t have to drive 15 minutes outside of town) and if you bring it up to management they will gas light you. It’s STRICTLY forbidden to mention wages with co-workers *reg flag* . Only good thing about working here is the benefits package, and some of the amazing workers. Don’t be fooled, working at a spa is NOT relaxing. 

The kingfisher has so much potential but unfortunately management has made it an unbearable place for most employees. Working conditions aren’t great (missed breaks, unsafe practices & unconstitutional expectations) 
Wages are low because management expects their guests to sublet their employees wages with gratuities so pay is very inconsistent. 
Someone with an HR background should really be hired to help with staff morale and communication. 

I loved working at the Kingfisher.  It was a family owned Resort.

I did a lot of walking here as I was checking out the work being done each day.  Then I would do laundry.  Mostly ironing table linens.

The Owners were very involved and I felt included in decision making in my department.

I enjoyed working with every one working at the Resort.

I enjoyed the whole experience.
