KSA has had its scrutiny in the media for past incidents, but definitely has been turning a new leaf. The environment was very relaxed, enjoyable, and different every day. There was a routine of tasks to follow but what the day would bring was always a surprise. Being a student at Kwantlen but being able to help other students was one of the most rewarding feelings, especially in cases of international students. My co-workers made my day - their personalities, professionalism, positivity, laid back attitude, but maturity to deal with any issues; probably the best co-workers I have had in a while. Management was good as well. There is always room for improvement in any work field and I strongly believe that the KSA was headed towards a more positive and approachable image.

For administrative employees, we primarily work a hybrid schedule. 

The organization offers a great work-life balance for employees. They provide a generous paid time off policy. There is a lot of room for growth and movement within the organization. I started off as an employee and obtained a manager position within two years. They offer funds for professional development and time off to attend courses or conferences. 

There is a lot of cross-collaboration between the different areas of the organization. This can cause projects to move slower than normal. It can be frustrating at times when you want to complete a project quickly. There are multiple levels of approval before things can move ahead. 

I have worked as both a research assistant (3 years) and teaching assistant (5 months) for faculty within the psychology department at KPU. I have had such a positive experience with all of the roles (contract work) that I've assumed! The psychology faculty are highly competent and fantastic people. I would gladly apply for any future research or teaching assistant position with a member of the psychology department. I have found the faculty to be professional, friendly, communicative, and supportive. :) 

Assisting the public with questions about courses being offered, enrolling students and helping professors with their clerical needs regarding lesson preparations, testing and student surveys.  A typical day involved sorting mail, typing letters, duplicating class lessons and tests to be distributed to their students.  The most enjoyable part was being a part of the education process and the hardest parts were summarizing the surveys in a meaningful way.

I needed teaching & leadership experience, as most of my retail/service sector jobs hadn't been able to give that to me in the past. The KPU Learning centre was a super supportive working environment with great supervisors. I truly enjoyed tutoring students during my time there, and I wish I had started the job sooner. The only downside is that they pay minimum wage and the available hours are quite limited, so it doesn't make for a place someone can "make a living". I thought of it more as feel-good volunteer experience to get essential skills I needed for future employment.

Kwantlen provides many courses.  People come to Kwantlen to take many different courses that will help prepare them for the job they want to take.  They also have a program for people with disabilities called The Access Program for People with Disabilities.  The program is provided to teach them different job skills and has Work Experience for hands on work.

Depending on your department, it can be a great place to work with some of the most amazing individuals. If you're ambitious and seeking career advancement, it can be difficult to progress as positions don't open often. In regards to salary and benefits, pay is average but vacation days are abundant as you can progress up to 8 weeks based on seniority. Management is quite flexible when it comes to taking off paid vacation days, medical appointments, and a hybrid work schedule.

Since I am is a volunteer at school, I don't have a typical day at work. When events are hold, I will cheak my schedule. If I'm free, I go to help. 
     My co-workers are very nice. Sometimes the Volunteer Program has something outings for volunteers and we like the outings.
     I love to be a volunteer because I can meet many friends and I have more chances to enhance myself. In the Volunteer Program, there are many different jobs, such as food service attendant, poster promoter and etc.

Kwantlen polytechnic finance group gives a platform for all students who are interested in field of finance to get together and exchange ideas and information. This group is really unique in a way that it was setup without actual Finance faculty at university and still got a decent response from students. School of business at Kwantlen is trying to bring finance degree and Kwantlen polytechnic finance group has a major role in it.

Working at Kwantlen Polytechnic University has been both flexible and positive overall. As a Student Assistant I maintained the space in the Aboriginal Gathering Place as a receptionist, and a lot of the day was just basic clerical duties, maintaining the space and working with the coordinator. Events would happen and a lot of students would use the space to study. This was really not too difficult to handle, and the scheduling was always incredibly flexible.
