As with any workplace with a lot of staff, there are those who become friends and those who do not. It has been my experience that the staff that require the most effort from management are treated more favourably than staff who work fluidly, efficiently, and mesh with others. There isn't a lot of room for growth. Since there are a lot of staff there are many cliques. The mission, visions, and values preach a work/life balance, but this isn't portrayed by management or other staff. Taking breaks are frowned upon by certain staff, because if you busy you shouldn't have time to take your breaks. I believe it's because people are constantly in fear of losing their position so they make themselves look useful at all times. Certain managers/deans/chairs are great to work with an allow for more of a flexible work environment, but it is not something that is in every department. Protocol isn't always followed in hiring processes and sometimes it is all in who you know and suck up to. Equity and fairness is spouted, but not acted upon. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
Good pay, health and dental benefits, retirement benefits.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Workload overload, management not understanding the processes, only saw the numbers and not the work involved.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Toxic. Management does not listen to employee, make changes for the sake of making changes, does not take time to get to the root of problems.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Plan for the day, triage tasks by urgency, including tasks not completed the day before, deal with urgent tasks as they come in, try to complete as many tasks as possible, leave less urgent tasks for the next day and hope for a slow day with no useless meetings to catch up.

My job required performing duties as requested by my supervisors. The work itself was enjoyable. Some of the requests required parts, equipment or services we did not have. This made quick response difficult when they had not made decisions soon enough. Lack of direction from upper management made some decisions extremely difficult. These were new programs and confusion was a regular obstacle. Almost everyone I worked with did their best with what they were given. College procedures were cumbersome and the hardest thing to get used to. Comradery with fellow staff members made coming to work enjiyable. I would have enjoyed staying at job but budget cuts caused my position to be eliminated. 

I hope that this works for the reader. As an employee , either contract or salary we must be committed to the continuous improvement of the companies bottom line and the continuous improvement of the corporate safety  and work progress culture.  Complete management equality based on all working  steadily through out the day with a view of completing  assigned tasks.

The culture of the work place should  fall in place with the expectations of the corporate management group. When a strong  a corporate culture is in place  the work place becomes a comfortable and progressive  team that is able to over come  dead lines and issue driven problems and  enjoy a sense of victory  at the end of every work day !

Teaching is a challenging job, often with long hours and few rewards from students. Support staff at the college are fabulous and meet our needs unfailingly. There is a sense of competition between faculties that creates antagonism but the culture is shifting with new hires and hopefully more cooperation will ensue. Overall, working here is great. The stress from students can be daunting, and does not bode well for those that succeed through affirmation. 

The biggest challenge is government interference in operations and collective agreements. We have not had an agreement since 2020, so there have been no raises or cost of living adjustments.

Lakeland College is a solid place to work. The pay stands out for the region, although it may not be top-tier provincially. Their pension plan and drug benefits are commendable. The work environment is both flexible and fairly modern, fostering productivity and well-being. One of the biggest assets is the dedicated staff – many of whom are exceptional at what they do. While there has been notable turnover in senior leadership, it presents opportunities for advancement for committed employees. It speaks volumes that many choose to retire here. The institution feels like a close-knit family.

Typical day consisted of caring for the calves as well as cows, treating sick animals, feeding and performimg routine maintnance on equiptment. I learnedhow to keep proper treatment records and how to perform Artificial Insemination for strict breeding records. The hardest part of this job was dealing with all the breakdowns and having limited help to fix these problems before they got worse. I enjoyed being aroung the livestock amd managing all the records for these animals to ensure they were all up to date and given equal care/treatment as stated by the animal welfar guidelines

Seeing the students grow and maturing in their life. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
My success was watching the students succeed. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The working environment was not the greatest. My supervisor was very controlling and interfered with the teaching at times. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Get there prepare for class. Students arrive and I teach and have lunch. Teach till 3:30 then students leave. I prepare for next day.

I walk about 5 miles in a shift.  I deal with drinking students so I learn to be patient and non-judgemental.
I seldom associate with management as I work nights and supervisors have the day shift.  My co-workers are a fun and supportive bunch.  The hardest part of my job is to convince drunk students that it is time to stop the party.  The most enjoyable part of my job is the interaction between myself and the students.

Mid size College. Great staff.  Caring leadership
