My time spent having been employed by the Lakeland Credit Union was interedting for me as I never saw myself working in this type of environment. It was suprising as I managed to blow my self away in different avenues I had not been subject to in the past. Whereas I had an opportunity to grow within this company, I was exposed subject to diffferent aspects of the business which really helped me to realise how important it is for me to be in a family/team environment. I also realized that it's important for me to work in a customer service oriented position, and how challenging it is for me to be in a position that involves me be stationary for hours on end! Having great relationships with co-workers and the general public has always been the best part of any workplace for me, and I hope to atttain employment in a position where this is also important to a company!

Good workplace culture among employees, easy to make friends. 

Management was terrible, uneducated and clueless leaders. VP's with no degrees and no college diploma; finance VP didn't even understand basic accounting principles such as amortization and capital asset write off rules. Absolute joke, leadership team relies on their "work experience" rather than education. Leads to a lot of decisions based on "educated guesses" rather than strategic planning and financial analysis. 

Promotions are usually title only, with no real incentive in terms of pay. They make you feel more important and pile on the work, but compensation remains stagnant. Received a 40% pay increase when I left and moved horizontally into a similar role in a different industry. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
Your team if you get close and the building is nice. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The manager is very  toxic and they fire people like changing your socks. Staff turn over is horrendous and staff are over their workload in the retail roles and leave. There are way too many VP’s who do little to nothing and don’t bother to understand the needs of the ones doing all the work and set unrealistic expectations. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The environment is very toxic and gossipy, but there are some really good people. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Highly administrative and pushy on targets to solicit for business or open new products.

Terrible place to work at, lot of backstabbing, extremely poor management. Higher up are on their positions with no education and knowledge and try to over power the staff. Management wants all the employees to be their puppets and if you keep a strong opinion you are fired. 
No training plan:even  for bigger roles, staff that is legally responsible for client’s money does not even get any training. You are constantly in a stressful environment because you don’t know anything and management wants you to over perform

Great environment and the culture is member centered

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Start early and work late, but time passed very quickly. Very fulfilling job.

Lakeland Credit Union’s given me the ability to gain experience and knowledge through education and internal promotions. It is a fun and friendly environment with community involvement and fun activities and events. I’ve been fortunate to have amazing managers that have made me feel as if they have my best interest at heart and they offer a flexible environment when possible. I truly enjoy working alongside this amazingly friendly and knowledgeable staff.

A fun group of people who care about our communities. I enjoy the culture and my position here. I have a supportive and amazing manager that continually provides feedback and the opportunity for growth. 

There have been recent changes but the leadership team is invested in the success of this organization. If you are adaptable and want to be part of innovation, this is a good place for you.



New management in the last few years had made many excellent would be lifelong employees leave because of micromanagement and undue criticism. Treated as though you are an incapable person of completing your job despite many year’s experience. 

Many employees on stress leave and those who are able to leave permanently to find better work environments do so because of self respect.

Lakeland Credit Union has given me a tremendous amount of knowledge and experience in the banking industry. Every day I am learning more and continue to grow in my role. The management and staff are very helpful and we all make such a great team. I am looking for a permanent full-time position in Edmonton to continue my career path.
