Duties include data collection and consecutive interpretation. Typical work day includes logging into the system, collecting client data, then either dialing out or proceeding with clients who are already present.

Management with partnering staffing companies aren't always efficient or responsive. A lot of rules and policies are not fully laid out or implemented. 

There used to be an online forum for employees to communicate with each other, be it venting, offering advice, helping each other with lengthy and often legal scripts they found online which aren't provided by the company. This is no longer the case as interpreters are no longer allowed to post. Only communications remaining are the occasional notification and e-mails.

Hardest part of the job comes from the back to back sessions, long shift hours often involving complex terminologies, client abuse and second hand trauma. A lot of interpreters also get no health benefits other than the low wage, barring them from accessing the very health services that they assist with. English speaking clients aren't usually trained enough to work with interpreters and often get frustrated with interpreters simply for abiding to policies, rules, and ethic guidelines. Most do not even understand that interpreters are supposed to be interpreting in first person. Non-English speaking clients are often not educated which isn't exactly an issue. However, due to that fact they may not even speak or understand the target language very well,  and as a result causing the often poorly trained English speaking clients to point fingers at the interpreters for issues that's not from the interpreters' end. A lot of times the English speaking clients are also overseas works who don't have a good enough grasp of the English language, making it even more difficult for the interpreter to facilitate communication.

The only thing that is enjoyable for this role is that you know you helped people with no means to communicate without you in order to survive in a world that is completely strange to them, but that is about it.

A shift would be anywhere between 6-9 hours depending on the calls with an half hour break. This job requires constant learning and self improvement for interpreting conversations in various fields such as medical and financial. Since you are working remotely using a phone and a headset, there is no dress code or commute. Management pays via direct deposit on the dot and management is incredibly responsive. 

I would work here again. 

Overall, the job is not difficult if you are proficient in your language. However, the difficult part is some of the calls that you get. Sometimes, you get calls filled with so much negative emotion and the caller is yelling at you. Sometimes, calls are trivial and short. Sometimes the caller is incredibly appreciative. However, there are calls that make the entire job difficult. In my time here, I had to tell parents who did not speak english at all that their child is dying and only had a day or two left. It is those types of calls that made this job extremely difficult.

Since the job requires you to translate every word, every sentence no matter if its good or bad, important or not important, it is difficult to personally extrapolate yourself from the situation and the conversations you are to translate as the requirement of translating every word makes you relate to the situation and feel as though you are a part of that situation when you are only a translator. 

The company’s objective is to limit one’s pay which is already abysmal (by limiting hours to 37.5/wk) , no incentives or positive reinforcement to speak of and no medical insurance.(they’ll run you through a couple of discount websites as if it’s actually a privilege when they’re actually the ones making money off of promoting it). the job itself is phenomenal and very emotionally rewarding but the company is extremely cheap and you’d top their pay if you’d worked at a call centre for a decent company in 2005… it’s only logical that with promotions comes a pay raise but anyone with experience in the job market knows that cheap companies don’t miraculously become generous as you go up their ladder but hey what do i know … lastly, the job isn’t remote , it’s almost as stationary as any office work , u can’t work outside of Canada/the U.S. and you can’t work on the go as u’re working another job due to abysmal pay so the one thing that could’ve been a major positive about this job is non existent because it’s not allowed… oh and your lunch isn’t paid which isn’t a big deal it just proves that all they want to do is literally milk you.

This is the worst company to work for in the language services in the entire US. They pay the minimum that is possible. The calls are non stop for the employees and and many of them are very tough and need certified Interpreters but the interpreters are told to say that they are qualified to take any kind of calls. Only good benefit they offer is 401k, No one accepts the health insurance they provide.There is no vacation or sick leave. Interpreters are treated like dispoable commodity in this company, They are forgetting that the entire Company is built on the Interpreters's back. No raise is ever given be it 1,2 5 or even 10 years. what you start is what you will always be paid. The inflation is highest in the 40 years and this company believes that their interpreters are making their ends meet from 10-15$ an hour whereas their charge for their clients is increasing every year. They always talk about "Great Place to Work" which is continously forced upon the every interpreters to give them good feedbacks. The management should treat their employees with dignity and respect.This company is absoulte worst to work for Stay away and find something else. And lastly none of your credentials is given value here, there is no room for improvement here. 

Very stressful work environment with non stop calls. They give us 15 seconds in between the calls then on to the next. I almost worked here for 2 years working very hard but your hard work is not recognized by management but when they feel that you did something wrong they will reprimand you no question asked. They always side with the clients and not their employees who work hard to service those calls. There is no proper protocols for client complaints just reprimand the interpreter. Calls are monitored by people who can barely speak english and we are supposed to be coached by those people, what a joke! Management is horrible and not supportive towards interpreters, they only listen to what the clients are saying. They treat interpreters like ROBOTS!! The pay does not increase and there is no room for advancement. I do not recommend working for this company unless you need a work from home job for short term. Thanks for reading!

Certain of types of calls can be very stressful. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
All the remote workers are very actively communicating with each other via portal postings. The managements are very professional dealing with remote workers in different area and timezone. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Working in my own home office alone, I receive calls mostly from hospitals, clinics and US health insurance companies.  This job requires constant studying for vocabularies for unpredictable unique situations. Breaks are scheduled, but there are many times I cant go on my break on time due to lengthy calls.  However, I can always step away briefly for bathroom or grab some water between calls for couple min.

Pros:
- You get the feeling that you are really helping people, especially older people who cannot communicate in English.
- Work from home, no commuting
- No dress code. Can get up from bed and start work in my pajamas.
- Able to learn new terms in various fields which will probably be useful in later stage of your life

Cons:
- Stressful work. Calls are back-to-back and you merely get 10 seconds or less between one another. My previous shift was in graveyard hours and it's better though.
- Training is dull. You get to watch videos online for quite a few hours per day and sometimes there are quizzes attached to the videos to complete. Lots of videos contain the repetitive content and is boring.


I just worked for less than half a year so I can't really address the job advancement or pay raise issues that other people mentioned, but I would just call it a mediocre job. Paid slightly higher than other student part-time jobs but is a lot more stressful than no-brain jobs.

Just do yourself a favour and don’t work here. Forget that this company does not provide any benefits or insurance and have bad management; the worst part is that they will track every single minute of your breaks. Obviously, no one should be taking long breaks aside of their scheduled break, but EVEN WHEN YOU TAKE 3 MINUTES WASHROOM BREAK, THEY WILL TRACK IT AND DEDUCT IT FROM YOUR HOURS and if you don’t go on the ‘break’ status, you will get none stop calls back to back. I once had to get permission from a customer to allow me to go to washroom because some calls can get ridiculously long. Their training is only one week even though many of us feel that it should be longer in order to be prepared to start working. This company does not care about a well-being of their employees, the only thing they care about is finding ways to pay you less.

It is an interpreting company but it treats interpreters very poorly. For example, the company charges a lot to companies for its service but it pays less than 10% of it. It treats interpreters like an extra spare part which it can get any time. It is an emotionally wearing job but the company ignores it. It only points out what interpreters did wrong as if interpreters are robots and not allowed to make a single mistake. Moreover, the company never listens to interpreters whatever clients say - even thought it is  a lie, it is interpreters' faults. 

One of my fellow interpreter heard a someone fell from the roof while interpreting a suicide consultation call. Can you imagine? 

- Low quality client representatives; very low quality and rude LEPs 
- Very Poor pay and salary  
-  Very poor benefits including “health insurance “; it is really a "discount plan".  
-  Disregard for interpreters as employees. Treated as children not as professionals.  -  Extreme Inflexibility. 
- No chance for professional growth - Tedious, monotonous , and company's convenience directed daily routine, that can sometimes lead you too underperform as desired.
- Solely focused on company's results at no matter what cost. Even cohered to fill yearly surveys implying that it is one of the best companies to work for.
- Poor and VERY unfriendly IT system, governed only by the equipment they provide loaned.
