This is a job that I find to be so very rewarding, you work with individuals who need alot of assistance or may only need prompting.
I have learned that there are so many mental dissabillities in this world some very common and some very rare. working with individuals who have a duo diagnostic is a job you must work with as a team, There is a wide range of aggitation that becomes physical and it is very easy for staff members to get hurt . In this job you can never hold a grudge otherwise you are in the wrong proffession. programs must be followed as with this type of clientel structure and routine is very important. One of the hardest things about this job is watching how some staff interact with individuals , some are new with very little experience and do not realize but just saying no to one of these individuals can set them off, using a round about approach is always best, the best thing about this job is seeing that there is actually sucssesful stories , follow through with programs for eg. sensory deprived individuals , by the end of there stay they are able to wear clothes, hug, and actually look happy and are able to go to group homes to live a good quality life style

A typical day at work usually consisted of me starting with the emails from the night previously and any phone calls that would come in. It wasn't that busy for the first half hour - hour or so of my shift but any walk-ins as well. I would help the students of NorQuest college with any technical issues they were having with their student accounts, computers or assignments that included Microsoft programs. The Computer Commons area was very self run, we rarely would need and manager assistance in the area he would usually come check in every week or two just to make sure things were running smoothly. I loved this atmosphere for it gave me responsibility and I was proud of the work I accomplished. It always put a smile on my face to be able help a student who was having issues and if couldn't someone else in my department was eager to help. The teamwork that was acquired in that establishment was incredible and made it fun to go to work.

This College is by far the most f ked up place I have ever worked. Lack of communication between staff who float between department and units. Likes to terminate staff with out just cause. Incredible amount of high turn over with staff always coming and going. Staff calling in sick often without enough coverage from additional staff and likes to take its time hiring staff. This is an institution that does not show any sign of stable employment. Do not apply to an institution that lacks the ability to care about its staff. Benefits are great but treatments of staff is marginally good. Can’t work out differences with staff. Likes to keep staff in the dark about office problems.

Despite many employees who really care about the students and are very dedicated,  this is a very disengaged and dysfunctional place to work.  This organization is plagued by poor or non-existent processes and lacks a strong vision of where it is going as an academic institution (despite a recent rebranding). Very frustrating 'governmental' work environment where employees rarely feel valued or listened to. The most senior executives of the organization lack connection to the frontline staff and to the real purpose of this organization. Very disappointing place to work if you have an interest in pursuing an academic career.  Good place to land if you are a technocrat.

The staff and teacher's are friendly and usually try their best and work hard to support the students with very limited staffing and resources. 

Staff are undervalued and unsupported by management often blamed for nonexistent issues and failing policies. Management is disconnected from the frontline and regularly fails to provide staff the supports they need to effectively and efficiently complete their work responsibilities. Perfect example is the new building they haven't even started using yet. They cut down on staff space and failed to provide staff with appropriate workspaces that they need to do their jobs. 

Like some of the other reviews have noted favoritism and intimidation are a large part of working here.

I was not an employee here, however, as a former student I can attest to horrible management within my program. I completed a 2 year diploma and I have walked out of NorQuest College having learned absolutely nothing. I do not feel prepared to work in my field, nor do I feel prepared to continue my studies because I feel completely unprepared and under qualified. Also, legitimate concerns were voiced from students in regard to lack of professionalism from professors and administration and they were completely dismissed and disregarded. If you are considering studying here please don't.

How high does the turnover rate have to be in a department  before acknowledging that turnover issues might stem from management itself? If you're seeking a place to grow your career, this is not the environment for it. You'll be thrown into the deep end with little to no support, yet held to incredibly high expectations regarding your responsibilities. Management fails to provide adequate backing or support, often swooping in at the last moment to overturn decisions you've made, leaving you feeling unsupported and undermined. My advice: steer clear, or at least ensure you leave your previous role on good terms, as many who quit here end up returning to their former jobs.

A lot of talk about anti-racism and diversity. Audit of executive and upper management would reveal what staff already know, a true lack of diversity.
Real lack of internal opportunities for existing employees. People promoted into positions not advertised anywhere? Meanwhile hardest working staff are overlooked for promotions and told no opportunities coming. No consideration for employees with children, those without children receive promotions. Bias.

Norquest has amazing benefits for administration staff. Competitive time off and AUPE day niinized salary with regular increases. Even if I pay 1/2 my salary to daycare, I go so I don’t lose my benefits, pension and paid holidays! With that being said, I am often worked to the bone, emotionally and mentally exhausted by the end of the day. The turnover and constant change in the college is difficult to manage. New buildings, new processes, new faces, new management. Can’t really feel content before things change again. That could be a pro or a con but I find it difficult.

Great people. Supportive atmosphere.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Reality of dependency on government funding and regulations.  Changes in programs at federal and provincial levels can drastically affect revenue and thus have far reaching impacts.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Warm and supportive.  People oriented culture.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A mix of remote and on site work. Meetings with colleagues and other business areas. Good amount of focus time.
