What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
My experience working at Onyx Fire was extremely disappointing. The work environment lacked proper support, communication, and respect for employees. Management decisions often felt inconsistent and employees were not treated as valued members of the team.

There was a noticeable lack of transparency from leadership, and employees were frequently left without clear direction or support when handling challenging workloads. Instead of fostering a collaborative and professional environment, the culture often felt stressful and unsupportive.

Job security also appeared uncertain, as decisions impacting employees seemed abrupt and poorly communicated. It created a workplace atmosphere where employees constantly felt on edge rather than motivated.

I would strongly encourage the company to re-evaluate how it supports and communicates with its staff. A healthy workplace culture starts with respect, transparency, and proper leadership—areas that unfortunately seemed lacking during my time there.


What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
One of the biggest issues with working at Onyx Fire is the complete lack of workplace culture. There is very little sense of appreciation, growth, or investment in employees. People come in, do their work, and leave. There is no real effort from leadership to build a supportive or motivating environment.

What stood out most was seeing employees who have dedicated 20 and even 30 years to the company without meaningful recognition or career progression. Instead of fair raises or opportunities for advancement, the recognition often amounts to a small celebration with food and cake. While gestures like that are nice, they do not replace proper compensation or real appreciation for long-term loyalty.

Overall, the environment feels outdated and disconnected from modern workplace standards. A company’s culture should make employees feel valued and supported, but unfortunately that was not the experience here.


What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day feels like you’re doing the job of three people for very low pay. The workload is heavy and expectations are high, but the compensation and support do not reflect that. You spend most of the day constantly trying to keep up with tasks, handling multiple responsibilities at once, and working under pressure just to stay on top of everything.

There is very little balance because the workload never really slows down. It often feels like employees are expected to simply keep pushing through no matter how much is on their plate.

Overall, the day-to-day experience can be exhausting. You work extremely hard, take on responsibilities that should realistically be spread across multiple roles, and yet the pay and recognition do not match the level of effort being put in.

I started my journey at Onyx-Fire as a Fire Alarm Technician and now work as an Operations/Service Coordinator. Having experienced both the field and office sides of the company, I’ve really come to appreciate the level of dedication, teamwork, and integrity that drives everything we do.

When I was in the field, I was always impressed by the attention to detail and high standards we upheld on every job. One aspect that always stood out to me was elevator recall and integration testing. I found it genuinely intriguing — seeing how different systems interact to ensure a building’s safety during an emergency gave me a whole new respect for how complex and vital our work really is.

Now that I’m part of the Operations team, I see those same values reflected in a different way. Our department is fast-paced and constantly moving — dispatching service calls, coordinating technicians, and making sure issues are handled quickly and efficiently. It’s a busy environment, but a rewarding one, especially knowing that the work we do helps keep people safe and operations running smoothly.

What I love most about Onyx-Fire is that the company genuinely stands by its values of integrity, attentiveness, and promptness. There’s a real sense of purpose here — everyone is committed to doing things the right way and putting safety first. I’m proud to be part of a team that not only delivers high-quality fire protection services but also truly cares about its people, its clients, and the communities we serve.

It’s the worst company with the blunt manager! I worked there for about 4 months and it was absolutely horrible experience! Before I applied for the job a few people advised me not to work there. The management is dishonest and practice intimidation tactics. The manager harasses office workers and those in turn pass it down to the technicians, forcing them to work faster and lie to customers about job they performed. The most of the summer don’t do what they have to do as fire alarm techs

Worst place to work. There is no teamwork. You will be asked to do something for which you are not even hired, like covering reception along with your own work. No teamwork at all, if the workload is lot, there will be no help.
Every employee in the department was stressed, 
They work with the most outdated system which requires immense manual work rather than using technology. Stress is all time high
You  will be required to work extra hours all the time without any remuneration because one person is expected to do a job of 3 people

I did course at Electrical College of Canada  with Electrical Lab .
No hard part in the job , if you start work  from your heart .
the enjoyed part is when I start to do a good job at work .

It was difficult to accomplish duties while covering breaks for the receptionist. Her computer at the front was constantly sluggish. In addition, new tasks were constantly being assigned. They seldom rotated who would give the receptionist breaks or cover for her absence. It was always the same individual. There aren't enough employees since many left due to a lack of training, and the pay is poor. Even if you are promoted, you will not be given a raise.

Onyx is a growing company and while they are always happy to take on new clients, they seemed to forget you must also grow your staff to accommodate.  The atmosphere in the office was hostile and aggressive because there was so much activity and not enough staff. Things slipped through cracks. We would be forced to call clients and make up excuses to cancel jobs because they would overbook the technicians. It was really bad. 

Worse place any employee can ever work at. It's all about lies, deception and greed. The owners use employees like they are tools to be used and thrown away when they don't require them anymore. The most unprofessional bunch I have ever worked for starting from the owners who only instill pompous arrogance without having any knowledge of the industry or an education of business or trade to back it.

The company has a lot of flaws. I would only recommend working here if you need a stable job or can’t find anything better. The turn over rate is fairly high as employees are not being compensated properly.
