Paramount Properties

They lied about the position they hired me for. I was told i would be a property manager with a starting wage of $21.00/hr. On my 2nd day they informed me I would be staying at the desk of the property i was training at as the woman training me was going to be promoted. No problem I thought, and I was told I'd still get my original offered raise. Did I ever get it though? No. I was given a $1.00 raise at my 3 month interview however because I had been excelling in my position and just been given a fantastic review... 

I loved my job at this property so much though. Going to work was always fun, and the culture in the office was very light-hearted which made for more excellent work I think. 

I spent some time at another property, their largest complex. I was told I was there temporarily, which soon became permanent. The culture in the office was that of a 8th grade class. It was unbelievable the drama that was happening. First, their accountant is the nastiest human being I have ever met. She would call tenants "F**k heads" behind a closed door, and had a negative attitude about EVERYTHING. She was extremely domineering, and nothing could ever be done right for her. She is quite simply a bully in the work place. God forbid you knock on her door at lunch. There were however random days among the heart-racing anxiety you felt when she entered a room that she would be super pleasant. I lived for those days and cherished each one because you knew that happy her only lasted like a millisecond. 

My only solace was their rental agent. She is the epitome of the most shining human being. She is incredible at her job, and really tries to make work a fun environment. 

The final problem was the management in that office. The gossip that he would spread was insurmountable. He thrived on causing drama and seeing tensions flaring. He is buddy buddy with the owners though, so they too turn a blind eye. 

If you get a job anywhere but Prince of Wales with this company it probably wont be so bad (but get your wage offer in writing). I actually had an incredible time with this company and management at my original property. (why I went back). My last experience was awful.

If your willing to learn, try new things, and help people, this is the job for you. Each week is different, you learn about boiler systems, heating rads, plaster, drywall, painting, grounds keeping, electrical, ect…You get a front row seat to work with and understand many different trades. This jobs has an aspect of sales customer service, management and the corporate world. The staff are wonderful and management is there to help. If you can’t take direction or constructive criticism this is not the job for you, because there is a lot to learn. The kind of stuff you can’t learn until it happens, so you need to be a great problem solver. What do you do If the city has a blackout? Yes there is some basic directions. That’s the kind of thing you don’t learn till it happens to you. Each year there is so much to learn. If you have administrative skills and enjoy working with people this is the company for you. You get to help run a community. Every mistake is fixable, they are always willing to fix problems. If you put a few years into the company it really makes it worth it. It’s not something you learn overnight but you can grow with this company.  Paramount Properties is a family company that supports families and builds safe communities. I only left because I had to move cities. I am forever grateful  for my time here and all I learned. I really enjoyed my time at this company and I will miss all the teams I was on, the management team and the owners. 

I have been with Paramount Properties for almost 14yrs., nice people to work with and I love the work life balance. Been part of a great team and company feels alright. Work life balance for a manager can be difficult; however I liked the upfront personal experiences with the clients, the challenging and interesting work make it an enjoyable place to work. I feel like this job gives me a purpose that impacts others in a positive way. 
THINGS TO IMPROVE 
Remuneration could be more in keeping with workload and company expectation. No room on pay increase or to negotiate.
Better incentive to move up the ladder. Job is good but at present there is no incentive to move up and losing good staff as a result.
Hire more staff. I think they could review their hiring process at recruiting people, so the staff can get sometimes nice cover around holidays, personal day(i.e. doctor’s appointment, kids sick) and vacation time off as soon as requested. There is no need to reserve time 3 to 6 months ahead, when you don’t even know what could change in weeks ahead. Accommodation should be provided to the employee within a week of notice. 


I worked at Paramount Properties for close to 10 years. I can honestly state that it was the best job I ever had !!! I left on my own accord for what I believed was "greener grass on the other side" which was not the case. It is a family business and I found them to be very involved and would always listen with open ears to any and all issues. Property Management is a bit of a tough business but I loved dealing with people (tenants) which made my job more enjoyable. I think their pay ranges are at par with the industry. I did notice that when people left the company they usually left for another job or there were reasons to make changes. Every site I was on I found the staff to be very helpful and friendly. As a property manager your goal is to keep your building full and the ultimate goal is to collect all the rents. When accomplished it is a great feeling and you are noticed. I believe you make your own enjoyment at a job and I always had a great time and made many great long term relationships. I would highly recommend working for Paramount Properties.

I applied 2 times to paramount 20 years apart the first I didn't take the job the second time I was hired right away and started a day or 2 later ,not like the first where I was to start plumbing right away. I  was not dressed or equipped to do do so. I did have a trail period  but was told right away that I had the job ,live in super and I could move into my apartment when I could. There is an amount taken from you pay that  would make up as half rent but it is just part of the deductions for taxes that we can not use. And you on call every other week and weekend which has no extra pay for it no matter what happens ,nothing or a full out emergency

I could not have gotten out of that job fast enough. If you are applying for a job here and looking at the reviews, please trust them. The apartments are run down, management doesn't care as long as they are making money. Tenants will yell at you relentlessly and management will do nothing to help you. There is no appreciation or praise from management, even if you rent 20 apartments in under a week. You get away with a ton, but don't expect a thank you at any point. Expect to work on every 1st of the month, even if its a weekend or a statutory holiday. They consistently have jobs posted because turnover is that high, don't expect a permanent placement for at least 3 months or until someone else has had enough and quits. Don't waste your time, find another job.

Working as a Property Manager for Paramount you will get an excellent opportunity to develop some entrepreneurial skills. If you enjoy a dynamic work environment, communication with people, and focus on results - the company will give you an opportunity to grow professionally. You will get experience in full management control of the 100+ units apartment building: renting, overseeing the leasing process, customer service, rent collection, and building maintenance. Great chance to try yourself as a team leader of a building maintenance team. 

Take a moment to think about life. How finite our time on this earth is. How it could all be over at any second. How many amazing moments you’ve lived and conversely how many terrible moments you’ve lived. Don’t add to the list of the terrible moments by joining this company. I am not exaggerating when I say this is the worst company I have ever had the misfortune of wasting my precious and limited time on this earth to work for. I have never met such genuinely awful people as the owners of this family run organization. Just do yourself a favour and keep scrolling on your job hunt. You can do and are worth so much better.

I had a generally good experience working for Paramount and didn't experience the micromanagement and poor treatment described in other reviews. I learned a lot, got along with and trusted the site team, always felt respected by management and was given plenty of opportunities to learn more and grow my skill set. If they paid a livable wage I would have stayed.

I went for an interview in May 2017. I showed up 10 minutes early but the interview started 20 minutes after my scheduled time. When I was brought into the boardroom, one of the panelists didn't even show up. I was then told (by the President I might add...) I have no work experience or education multiple times. This is completely false (check my resume!). They also asked for my SIN which is ILLEGAL and should not be asked for until you are actually being hired by the company.
