When I joined Pattison Media as a street team member, I had high hopes because of the company’s reputation and the number of businesses I’d seen partner with them. Unfortunately, my experience didn’t match those expectations.

A typical day at work:
My role usually involved showing up at the scheduled time, preparing for events, setting up promotional materials, and engaging with the public. The event work itself could be enjoyable, especially when interacting with clients or community members. However, starting the day was often a challenge. I was scheduled to arrive at specific times, but I would show up a few minutes early only to find the doors locked and no one around to let me in. When I called for assistance, I was met with dismissive responses like “I’ll be there later, not sure why you’re early,” which created unnecessary stress and made me feel like being punctual was a problem instead of a strength.

What I learned:
This job taught me how to adapt in situations where communication and planning were lacking. I learned to stay patient and resourceful when instructions weren’t clear, but at the same time, I felt my professional growth was limited by how unorganized things often were.

Management:
Communication with management, especially around scheduling, was the most frustrating part of the role. I was very clear about my availability while I was in school, but my schedule was frequently ignored, and I was assigned shifts during times I had already said I was unavailable. Having to repeatedly bring up the same concerns without changes being made was discouraging and ultimately a major reason why I decided to leave.

Workplace culture:
The culture felt disconnected. It didn’t feel like there was much support or appreciation for the street team, and the lack of communication created an environment that was more frustrating than motivating. Instead of feeling like part of a team, I often felt like an afterthought, expected to just “make it work” without much guidance.

The hardest part of the job:
The hardest part was the lack of organization and communication. Arriving ready to work but being unable to start on time because no one was available to open the doors was demoralizing. Being scheduled during school hours despite repeatedly sharing my availability made me feel unheard and undervalued.

The most enjoyable part of the job:
The best part of this role was the event work itself. Engaging with the public, talking with clients, and representing the station at community events could be rewarding. Those moments gave me a glimpse of the potential this job could have if it were better supported internally.

Overall:
This job has potential to be a great entry-level opportunity for students or people interested in promotions, but significant improvements need to be made in communication, scheduling, and support from management. With better organization, respect for employee availability, and a more welcoming workplace culture, the street team could be a much more positive and valuable experience.

I learnt quite a bit from working for this company that I will take with my to my future position(s). I have very positive memories, and it was a fantastic place to be every single day. 
I am aware that Jim Pattison values and treats his employees very well.

Great people.  Everybody on the same page for making the business successful.

The radio business is the best business I have ever spent 45+ years in.  It is an excellent opportunity to interact with the public every day, whether on air or off.

I could have not asked for a better employer found in the Jim Pattison Broadcast group! With their benefits plan, communication within the company and always putting the employee first they are a dream to work for.

Commercials had to be entered by a specific time so I was under the gun as it were. Had to be in on the weekends to do commercials for sunday and monday, but that's the job.

overall good to work for  and had the options to transfer across Canada if wanting to move. Good work experience and friendly environment. Customer services was number one for the company.

The people where great to work with. The business was well presented in the area but advancement was limited.

great culture, great people and always hiring and promoting within the companies. Canadian company that always looks out for its employees. Highly recommend.
