What is the best part of working at the company?
Despite some coworker bad apples, the organization is stable, thoughtful and purposeful in all it does. Not everyone agrees with the decisions made, but that is the same in every workplace. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
I think the underlying knowledge that in some cases individuals lives and/or quality of life are dependent of your timely responses to lab testing or IPAC directions for example. The aspect that this org is the province's arm that provides guidance to the CMOH and MOH, and that guidance is sometimes not followed, can be stressful and demoralizing. . 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Work environment is good although some facilities are in poorer condition than others. Culture is positive although a bit at risk with part of the population due to remote work - i.e., there is a group that appears to be not connected to the rest of the organization.  

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Stressful in a good way to keep me focused and productive.

As a retired Laboratory Assistant what I remember is how vital Front End Processing is to the smooth running of the laboratory operations.
DASH, Data Entry and High Volume do great work under pressure. If your job involves wearing a white coat, FEP output is crucial to providing your testing material. Management is approachable, doors are usually open. If you have an issue, have a private closed door meeting and it will soon be resolved. For the most part, job classifications are meaningless on the job, everyone gets along and gets the job done no matter what your "title" is. You may encounter the odd person with an "ego" but it is rare. Staff get-togethers are good for morale and breaking the monotony of day to day work. The pension I now receive allows me to pursue activities during the work week that were not possible in the past. I made a life long career choice to work here and have no regrets.

I worked as a Data Entry Operator through a staffing agency. Was paid differently than those on contract or in the union, but expected to work harder and noticed that staff were treated differently based on certain human features. 
Was not aware that the direct hires had more rights than the temp staff. Bringing up complaints that the direct hires or unionized employees are not doing their job will result in subtle forms of retaliation and you losing your contract almost immediately. 
There is little that Management can do to stop the direct hires from slacking off the job I can tell you that.
While you will be recognized by a few for your hard work and work ethic, the politics of the public sector environment will get you into trouble. You will eventually end up getting let go or not having your contract extended in the end.

i truely love my job .....it is everything i ever wanted and i look forward to going to work every day.....i have learned to be more assertive and open and thanks to my co-workers making me feel good in the work place.....i have nothing to say about there being a hard part of my job and everything i do in my job is enjoyable.....i used to be nervous talking to clients on the phone and now i love giving them the info they are looking for and helping them out......my department has a great team......we have 3 students every spring for the summer and they are very good.  i work in a lab and the employees rotate which i think is good so you are not with the same people day in and day out......how ever i do live 2 hours away and i have worked seasonal 8 years and i would like to get employment to be closer to my home.

office politics, mean coworkers. People on temporary contracts were seen as disposable and were treated as such

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It's the worst work environment that I've ever experienced.  Employees on temporary contract were at the bottom of the totem pole, and you were seen and treated terribly.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Stressful, there wasn't enough work to go around so the job became excruciating trying to pass the time

In my three years working there, I have witnessed so many questionable things from management bullying employees to reminding us that we are on contracts as a way to get us to do overtime. 

Majority of the permanent staff are incredibly useless, unmotivated and generally gossips and pawns off work on other workers.

A typical day at work would be summarized as unnecessary change in paperwork, micromanaging from hire ups and getting disciplined for irrelevant things.

Great paying job, not worth the toll it takes on your mental health! Use a stepping stone and not a forever job.

I have never worked a place so steeped in politics and little disregard for staff. While you are told you are working in Public Health which is an arms length from the government, you are not. Upper management is handcuffed by the gov and fail to protect staff. Schedules are constantly changing and management frequently ignores their own policies, procedures and union advice. 

You will need to be in constant contact with your union rep to as they try to circumvent the rules at every turn.

Nothing was stressful. All people work there are so nice and professional and the working environment is great

A great day at work that you enjoy

At first, the lab was alright and the work is quite simple to do until you meet the permanent staff...there's a lot of blaming with employees who are in lower position when something  goes wrong, lot of mistrust and spying with one another if an employee takes long in their break (even if you are 1 minute late) they snitch you to management and management won't care what's going on with the staff and would just ignore the issues. They only care to be in the good side of the upper management.

The hardest part of the job is dealing with the management and senior employee. They will never appreciate your effort or anything that you do. They won't train you even if you ask personally. I gave my all to this company because I loved what I am doing but the management and your co workers who's been there for 20+ years will mock you and will make you feel really small. I wanted to stay in this company but my mental health is more important than this job.
