What is the best part of working at the company?
You can make friends with some coworkers. The foundation through Raymond James is a nice community endeavor.  If you can ignore all the toxicity in senior leadership and nepotism in hiring structures, and outdated HR and payroll systems it will make it easier to feel okay. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Leadership in the company, specifically in advisor marketing,  can make your job incredibly difficult. Lack of integrity, lip service, poor treatment of staff, toxic behaviours cause a lot of stress and many staff to take leave. There is a heavy "us against them" mentality within the marketing department.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
I think the greater company wants to believe in what they say, but it unfortunately doesn't translate to the departments. The marketing department in the past year or two has undergone a lot of change that has made the culture very tense, toxic and stressful. You either get in line and accept the treatment or the enviroment can be quite difficult to deal with.

A typical day at work involves a variety of activities. Responding to client needs, offering investment advice, monitoring client accounts for asset allocation and cash balance and Financial planning activities.
I have learned that at the end of the day a successful firm and advisor is about client first .  The securities industry requires attention to detail and strong education to keep current.
Management at Raymond James has a healthy balance of conservative and progressive enhancement of it services to both clients and advisors.
The company attracts professional and generally established individuals.  Co-workers get along and sense of respect is prevalent.
Hardest part of the job is not having enough time to use all the resources and information available. Most enjoyable part of the job is getting results for the client.

Raymond James - Investment Banking and Securities Dealing.

Starting salaries are not competitive in the industry. Working environment is less than ideal; you're sitting on-top of each other.

Human Resources states that new employees receive 3 weeks of paid vacation after their first year on the job; what they don't disclose is that these are earned days off for every day you work at Raymond James. Sick days are counted as your days off, another glitch they don't say upfront.

Many cliques in the workplace, and it's hard to break this attitude. Favouritism may prevail, making the opportunity to show what you're worth, that much more difficult.

Cynical attitudes seem to prevail in certain divisional circles. Jaded individuals? Oh, absolutely! Every work environment has their fair share of skeptics.

Great companies to work as independent financial advisor or corporate run financial offices.  Good work cultures of that promote continuous improvement and support for their advisory network.  Focused management team looking to grow wisely in the evolving financial services industry within Canada.  Looking to maintain culture of independence to attract entrepreneurial advisors into their network.  

Hardest part of job is incorporating the steady increase in compliance related activities into the day to day activities.

The most enjoyable part of the job is helping individuals reach their financial goals.

Think and research carefully about the FA if you want to work for in a branch. If you are not on the good side of an FA you will find yourself without a job sooner than you think. The pay scale is absurd with no salary range. The FA can decide how much salary you are getting. Beware if the FA is "high performing" success gets to their head and can just treat you like a piece of object that can be disposed of anytime. The pay is an entry level range but expectation is very high. The organization has a great culture, but in the branch is not always a healthy environment. 

One of the worst company to work for, do not recognize your set of skills you have and will not give you the opportunity to do so. Nepotism is 100 percent a thing here and especially when you are working in a male dominated area. No work culture, and management is always working from home and you will get no guidance. Pay structure is no existent. If you are not licensed (no CPH or CSC) you are will be paid a non livable wage. If you do get your license you will measly get a bump that makes your salary barely above livable wage.  

Staff is okay. Management is okay. Work is repetitive with lots of phone calls, and paperwork.

Lots of cubicles that are close together with lots of sounds that some people may or may not like.

People treat people nicely even though they make mistakes, they keep their voices polite and sympathetic. 

They always make sure the people stay no matter what.

1. low pay and no significant increases
2. If you work on the advisory side there will be no career growth at all unless you work with a bigger team that is looking to expand. Most of the assistants work there for 5+ years doing the same job with no opportunity to grow. but this is the perfect place for people who enjoy job security and doing the same admin work for years.
3. they do not provide work tools for work from home like other companies
4. health benefits were cut during covid
5. when you see 18 vacation days in your contract do not get too happy! this includes sick days......


You really have to decide to take time with who you are working with on the team. I never felt supported and my financial advisor in particular did not have the human piece when working with them. 

If you are highly interested in working in this industry make sure you connect with the right team. You also have no job security if your boss decides one day they want to let you go with unjust cause. 

I learned a lot about what/who I did not want to become working with my boss. Not a good leader and not respectful to not only their team but their clients..

It’s hard to put a finger on the culture at RJL. It’s not sour by any means. But it’s not teaming with joy. I was in the IT department which is the wrong place for Business Continuity. For me that was hard to adjust to. 

Bottom line…I would recommend working for RJL. Lots of good managers there as well as some bad. Hours are flexible, They have some smart people in the IT department.
