When I am schedule to work with my key client for three days a week, I drive to the client's home and then I am accompanying him on the handi- bus to make sure that he is not having any misbehaviours or he is not unfasten his seat belt while the bus is in motion. This is due to health and safety of himself and other clients and staff (me) on the bus. At the beginning, I was facing with all kinds of insurmountable challenges that he wasn't co-operative at all and he was kicking and punching the back site of the front seat and sometimes he was hitting himself on the head and screaming at the same time. So, he was off the bus for a while which in that time, I talked to him over and over about all the Health and Safety Regulations of handi-bus while he is on the board. So, after almost two months of very hard work and explaining and over explaining the consequences of following the Health and Safety regulations which he and every body else will travel in a very safe environment and every body gets to their destination without experiencing any harms or body injuries. Finally now, he is listening to me because he is more aware of the consequences of his own action and I also have been very calm and patient with him in terms of explaining of my expectations while he is travelling with his peers and staff. This has been the most rewarding and fulfilling part of my jobs. Every time, he is listening to me in terms of teaching instructions or strategies and he is showing me that he is willing to learn them, I praise him and I tell him that he is doing a great job and I am very proud of him. Before, this was the hardest part of my job but now it is becoming a second nature for myself (as a staff) and him (as a client)

A typical day would start with retrieving anything in my in-house mail box, then setting priorities for days work load; meetings, preparation for meetings, data entry, phone calls and goal development.

I learned more about the disabled adults in our community and how much they contribute to our community.  I gained a greater appreciation for the disabled and enjoyed getting to know our agency's clients.

Management was very hands on and always helpful and informative.  It was the best supportive work environment I have worked in.
My co-workers came from many different ethnic backgrounds and it was a pleasure getting to work with them, to enhance the clients lives.  Most co-workers were very positive in nature and eager to learn.
The hardest part of my job was trying to keep up with the ongoing governmental changes to my job.  I was not educated in this field of work and therefore, felt sometime out of my league with the governmental policies and procedures.

I really enjoyed working with the staff and clients.  It was a positive supportive work environment.

The sector deserves much more resources from government. Going years with no additional funding (but ever mounting inflation and increased costs) caused the agency to have to “reshape” how things are done in order to meet demands. Hoping government can follow through on future promises so agencies in this sector can catch up and put these resources into the employees hands.
Minus the current struggles with some of these changes and not all employees getting the increases that they were hoping for, this agency and sector are very rewarding. Rehoboth has great benefits and lots of options for hours as well as positions. The clients are the best, and make coming to work pure joy. Great co-workers (for the most part).  

Great ideas and care for individuals. Strong ethics and morals.
But there is little support for employees.
No further training provided other than the basics required.
No growth and opportunities.
Most internal positions are given to those in place already, not to outsiders.
No room for advancement if you work residential... once your a practitioner, you can apply as a Team Lead...end.
You are paid on a grid of experience of hours in the field, not by experience.
Hours are controlled  and with limitations. Benefits are standard .

I've learned a lot during my time with Rehoboth, I have gotten to experience lots of things and learn a lot about myself as well. It was great to be a part of many training courses that provided me with lots of experience. 

The hardest part of the job is that it can be unpredictable and you can work long hours. It is an exhausting but rewarding job to work with individuals who have disabilities. I really enjoy this type of work and I think that any individual who is caring, compassionate and has patience would too.

Working for Rehoboth is a great experience for me it help me to understand the needs of people with disabilities and sometimes it can be challenging but you have to have patience and humility and a tender heart if you don't have those you cannot work with people with needs. And with me working here I enjoy it so much because the client I worked with is very fun loving and you have no choice but to love her back. And we get along very well because the the fun things she loves to do I love them as well so it is a pleasure working for Rehoboth I enjoy it very much. 

A typical day at work is not as typical as working at other agencies. There are often days when our location is short staffed, and most staff support 2-3 clients, often with high needs.  Management is often seen as overwhelmed with the work, and doesn't communicate well with frontline staff. The hardest part of the job is being heard and understood by management.  Working with co-workers is good, and enjoyable.  I've learned that this job can seem like a babysitting service for these adults.

Policies need work..very emotionally draining and physically draining but rewarding..Too much money going to the wrong places instead of projects for the persons with disabilities...I wish there was more for them to do except clean..I do enjoy being with them in helping anyway I can to contribute to a better quality of life..I enjoy all my coworkers and love team work.

not stressful. The support removes any reason to   be stress

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Arrive to work. Warm greetings to all. Wash up and get into working gear. Get feedback from the outgoing caregiver.  After meeting with the outgoing team, take up duties as guided by a list of responsibilities finishing the outgoing duties as per meeting.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Tough to answer. Very restrictive toward client inclusion.

Lack of communication from senior management 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Restrictive. Management decision is final. No apparent consideration of Frontline staff opinion
