I worked at this school for many years in many capacities.  This last position was as the Secretary II position where I was given many opportunities to expand my abilities.  A typical day was receiving parent and/or students at the main reception.  Assisting teachers to get their attendance completed on time.  Making announcements over the PA.  Tending to children on site that may have injured themselves during play on the playground.  Once the students were in their classrooms, it was time to attend to my administrative duties.  Ordering school supplies, safety supplies, data entry for new and existing students.  Maintenance on the school website.  I also would take on the role of Librarian assisting teacher during their library lessons. I learned many things in this position like time management, reliability, responsibility, organizing to name a few.  The workplace culture was fun and energetic not dissimilar than the children.  The most difficult thing was leaving the facility there is always a need at the school.  Opportunities to volunteer are endless in a school environment.  The most difficult part is also what contributes to the enjoyable part being able to give back to the community.

When I started with RVS, I thought it was "better" than the bigger districts, and felt like I was seen and treated like an individual person who mattered. That has significantly decreased over the past few years. More and more is being expected and put on teachers, with little to no support, or reasoning behind decisions. Teacher input is neither asked for nor considered, when we are the ones in the classroom, administering policies and decisions set out by the Board. We are explaining to parents why certain things are happening, when we don't control it. Furthermore, classes are getting bigger and bigger and more complex and student success is decreasing due to demands being put on teachers. This is not just an issue with RVS but an overall issue with education funding not meeting growing needs of the population of the province. Teaching can be incredibly rewarding, but not in this province, not in this environment, not now.

Great job especially if you are in high school. My co-workers at this particular location were all generally very nice and a lot of them went to the same school as me, so we shared a lot of stories and laughs about classes and school. My job included working tills, making ice-cream desserts, working drive thru, cleaning counters, taking out the trash, restocking items, busing tables, cleaning tables, and taking orders for ice-cream cakes. All of the asst. managers and the manager were so nice and made it a part of their job to know you. management was also super considerate when it came to what shifts you wanted and which you couldn't take. If you gave them a weeks notice, then you didn't have to work. I honestly loved that place. The only bad thing about that job is getting grumpy customers, but there isn't much you can really do about that.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The best thing about working there is that you can grow professionally and personally, and it's good like being in both shoes of being a mother and working work for schools which you value more the work of the teachers and at the administrative level office.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
When all the things are coming at the same time, but if you organized yourself it is easier. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
I feel like home, I like it so much. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Working with the attendance, customer service, working as a team, helping the principal and all the Staff at school, parent, students, and all the request coming on the road.

While the school board is growing, board management is disorganized and lacks a clear sense of direction in building learning for students that is research-based, focused, and school-wide.  
Lack of understanding of evidence-based learning, growing sub shortages, and demoralized teachers.  
Management is often not clear on school planning, reflective action, and purposeful improvement.   School leaders often lack knowledge of research-based teaching practices and consequently, schools do not provide for students quality, effective teaching.

Once your in all people talk about is their pensions and when they got to leave. Most people disliked their job and did a poor job but nobody every got let go. The pay was very low. Anyone that could be employed or do better elsewhere, left. Human resource department was an embarrassment with very few of them professional or even educated. Time in got you moved up the ladder (and if you were in the select group) very clicky. Not an enjoyable place to work.

They don't care about their employees.

Not enough information and co-workers. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Poor and  no benefit,  management is really don't know what their employee's needs. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
No definite work hours  and you need to wait for your assignment after work until midnight.

When I worked at NCES, the best staff

The new school that I am currently working, one of the vice principal no nice at all

Depend of the area that you work

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Since September this year, very stressful

Lack of communication between departments is prevalent where they pass it onto the next person to ty to figure it out.
Then when they find it’s an error on their part, it’s not their fault.

I can only hope the individual schools are able to cope with this type of bureaucracy.

Has great benefits. requires a lot of flexibility and patience, great rewards when working with kids. Gives you summers off and when you have small children it works great with their schedule once they are in school.
