The Epicurean

Absolutely most horrible place to work. And it’s all because of the owners I mean if you like being screamed at and singled out on a daily basis and walking on eggshells every time you’re there I’m being punished (as in tables being taken away from you) if you do not say hello right away as soon as you walk in the door. If you have any mental health issues or anything along those lines, this is definitely not the place for you, as you will be screamed at in your face and belittled, and looked down upon overall just not a good experience was excited to start working here and couldn’t run out that door fast enough.

Summer money is good on occasion! But they do not let you know about the 2 weeks or up to 2 months (starting part-time) of training! No tables, no tips, but when you are "ready," they will give you one table section for as long as they see fit. No discount on food, no socializing, and expect to be punished (not yelled at) for anything! There is no constancy in what is expected of you; one day you are told to do it this way, and the next day it's wrong. Not a happy or mentally stable place to work. The entire owner's family plus family friends "works" here (luckily school started)! If you are lucky, (or a favourite) and get a good section, usually the front, you get tables or are friendly with the host's.

I worked here last summer, and it was so awful. I had experience in this job, and would always show up to work with a positive attitude. Within my first few shifts, I was yelled at in front of customers and staff, told i would “be a worker for the rest of my life”, and guilt tripped into taking shifts. Im typically a resilient person, but I had left a shift crying because of the owners words.  

Another thing was all the servers talked bad about each other, and there was often some sort of fight going on.

No discount for food, and not many opportunities for growth and training. 

I don’t recommend it for a job, many other places would be better.

Not the friendliest owners.   Little opportunity for advancement,  little respect for staff, drama-filled work culture, and tourist-based customers. Busy in the summer months little regulars. They appear desperate for customers 
 and will advise you to lure/approach the public or people to come in and if you were unsuccessful to convince people to come in they will blame you and your ability to socialize! As an employee, you would make better tips at a diner. The tip pool was inconsistent, and no one - including management could answer any questions about how much they tip out and the percentage. 

This was the most toxic workplace I have ever been in. Manager is unprofessional and will yell in front of guests.  Saw workplace bullying and favouritism that affected how well everyone could do their jobs. Manager would find reasons to lash out at employees, yelling at them for following her own directions and denying she ever said anything. Guests were generally friendly but the work environment was exhausting and demeaning. I would not recommend applying here to anyone, please save yourself the time and stress. 

Terrible place to work, extremely unorganized, rude managers/owners who yell at you for things that are there own fault. Food was microwaved and not something to be proud to serve. I’ve had 5+ years of serving experience and they treated me like I’d never served before. Terrible money and high tip out. Would NOT waste my time even applying. Wasn’t very busy and guests always left unhappy. Also very long hours for no reason, they would cut people who started before you just to spite you.

If you like to work in a fast paced environment. if you enjoy the adrenalin rash after a good service. if you appreciate a well run establishment. If you are willing to work hard and get reworded for it than the Epicurean is the right place for you. Nice co-workers that's sports each other. Do your job the right way and you will never have a problem.

The owners are terrible they yell at their staff in front of others and customers. They provide no training and expect high standards even though the chairs are ripped and there are buckets catching leaks in the ceiling. There is no staff incentive for employees to want to work there. They don't even allow you to eat with a discounted rate. They make empty promises. TRUST ME STAY AWAY!!

I came to the Epicurean in May of 2018 with the intention of only being there for the season and here I am one year later. With great excitement I look forward to the coming months. I have never seen business owners more passionate and committed in giving their customers who visit from all over the world an unparalleled and exceptional dining experience.

Great people to work with, chef and manager are both fantastic.
