The We Store

In my experience at the We Store, there were great experiences and some not so great experiences. I want to give an honest review. 

Coming from a background in recruitment, I was given the opportunity to work in HR on a 
 6 month probation and I was excited for the opportunity. The transition would be difficult but they said they were okay with me being green in the industry. They would provide guidance and support throughout the process. 

In my 4 months there, I learned many things there. It was initially difficult but I was starting to grasp the role through and through. I am quite proud of my accomplishments in my short tenure there (from policy creation, to SOPs, performance reviews, assisting with payroll, managing the HRIS system, and more)

Pros:
- Thankful for the learning experience I received. 
- Learned many aspects of the day-to-day (including WSIB, employee relations, implementation of insurance, etc.)
- The Store Managers and employees at the locations were beyond delightful. I absolutely loved the staff.
- There is merit to the direction of this organization and the growth is due to the many hardworking members of this team. They are a great group of workers.
- I have great respect for the owners of this organization as entrepreneurs.

Cons:
- There was always a sour response to any completion of tasks. I was very new at this position, but it seemed like all tasks completed were unsatisfactory. This was discouraging. They encouraged communication and inquiry only to be met with anger and vitriol. 
- Flexibility was an issue. I asked for a vacation upon hire (and when the time came for my 2 days off - it was met with much resistance and accusations of questionable judgement). Further, things like going down the street for a coffee were deemed unnecessary and a waste of company time. This can be correct to some employers. I may be disillusioned by the fact that no previous employer ever made this an issue. I was also criticized for wearing a polo to work instead of a dress shirt. For someone who worked alone in an office, I felt (and I may be wrong) these were a bit over the top. 
- Overall, I enjoy cohesiveness, encouragement, and positive communication. This was not always the case here. 

Cooperate and Salary Management don’t care about their staff whatsoever, they only care about the numbers at the end of the day! They put constant pressure on staff members to push daily deals and reach a cart expectation which if not met can result in lesser shifts being given or being fired period! They make their staff stand at the door for 8hr no matter how extremely hot/cold it is keeping in mind the door “needs” to stay open! In addition they underpay their employees especially for how many expectations they enforce on them including taking extra time away from daily life outside of work (not payed) doing things for the stores! This is the one place I’ve worked where there is a constant revolving door of employees because nobody appreciates the way they get treated while working here.

I loved working at The We Store but was also very frustrated. I was very misled about wages and potential benefits when I was hired, with no solutions offered whatsoever. There are a lot of micromanaging issues related to upper management. This company seems more focused on expanding and giving customers shopping incentives instead of rewarding and retaining employees. The uniform policy was changed many times, including phasing out uniform pieces that employees had already paid for.

From the start it was very promising with the training and the constant praise from fellow employees.  Never received negative feedback or coaching but less than 1 month from being hired was met by the manager at the start of my shift.  He told my customer service was not up to par and that their sales were low and they were consistently in competition with other cannabis stores so he had to let me go - no coaching no feedback or second chances.  Later I found out from former employees and current that  it’s a revolving door

Since starting at the we store my mood and life have gotten better because of the job. I started as a bud tender and quickly moved into a team lead position after a couple weeks into working. The managment is pretty good and understanding. The work environment is great and really makes you feel like your part of something more than just a cannabis shop. I look forward to what other opportunities come out of this company

Very exciting to work in a new professional company in a new industry. The people that work there are happy including the people in management. They all try hard to make it a positive place to be. The people who come in to shop are very interested in hearing about cannabis and all the different products that are available. This makes the day go by fast and makes the job interesting.

It’s a job first and foremost, however it is elevated by the chill work environment. Team leads and most managers try and make work fun, they don’t mind you goofing around with each other  within reason as long as you are professional with the customers. Work/life balance could be a little better and I wish they offered benefits, but otherwise definitely one of the better retail environments I’ve worked in.

I currently work for this company and I can confidently say this is my most favourite job I’ve had. The people I work with are fun and energetic and it is overall a positive environment! Management is understanding and encouraging. The salary is fair and the hours are pretty good too. Also there’s always opportunities for growth. I would recommend working here! 

I enjoyed working at the We store as a budtender because I received benefits such as discounts and flexible working schedule. The cool part about this job that I really enjoyed was how much I learned about the industry and how friendly the people were. I will miss most the events we would have as a store, it was a really good group of people at my store.

Dishonest corporate management, neverending rotating turnover of store managers at all locations. No benefits, lack of raises. Focuses on write ups and disciplinary action rather than coaching. Will lie to staff and tell different people different things to achieve corporate end goal.
