I've worked at TCS for a number of years and have found the managers, overall, to be caring, compassionate, understanding and flexible. That being said, I don't always agree with every decision, but that's just life, am I right? During the height of COVID, things were busy and stressful and all at TCS, from individuals served to owner to management to general staff, found this time to be uncertain, stressful, anxiety-producing, etc. The pandemic was obviously unprecedented in our time, so, yes, mistakes were made; for many, work/life balance took a hit, budgets took a hit, (and therefore some things weren't covered that some thought should be), it was difficult to 'connect' on a personal level, etc. The cost of living shot up and wages and benefits have yet to catch up, although collective agreement bargaining is in the works and raises and increases are almost certain. As things stand, in the field, Thompson Community Services offer competitive wages and benefits They could be better, but are fair and, generally, above industry standard.

Coworkers are amazing - so many bring great caring, skills and talents to the job. Again, during the pandemic, company culture took a backseat and morale has suffered, though I'm starting to notice more in-person events and activities being planned already, as guidelines ease.

I enjoy working for this company - I feel valued, included and, most importantly, find the work I do everyday significant and meaningful.

The clients are challenging and support workers receive no support from management. Management is too overworked, they need more help but are afraid to speak up. Who pays the price? The clients and the workers.  Some of the clients have severe mental issues as well as developmental ones. Community Support Workers aren't trained in mental health. All these agencies say "developmental" but it's way more than just that. We get no training at all to work with clients that  have such a huge range of challenges. Anybody with a pulse gets hired so there's a big turn over and most people leave. Management takes their work load out on staff. They might think they do a great job and protect each other because they're afraid to stand up for themselves to head office or the CEO. It's all about how they "look". 

I don't recommend this agency for families or individuals. Look somewhere else, or better yet complain to the Ministry of Social Service - they're the ones that oversee CLBC that allows these uncaring agencies to be there in the first place. Most complaints are about management and the way staff are treated. Never mind what they say in writing, it's not that lovey dovey stuff in reality.The staff survey only got filled out by 50% of the staff. Do the math

Very unprofessional and abusive place to work. Its for profit so clients interests are not taken into account. Employees are treated like garbage very poor wages even with experience, bad hours, poor management, poor training, no breaks, overworked and management makes tons of mistakes. You have to check every cheque as they will rip you off hours. Clients are treated badly and nothing is done in their best interest. Money is their focus and constantly put people in danger as training and competency of management and staff is very poor. They somehow pass acredidation even though nothing is up to code.no future for employees and they do not offer any further training for anyone to advance. They make you pay out of your own pocket for updating first aid or any other training. You will be treated as something disposable as an employee and and your needs and complaints are not taken into account.i have worked for many companies serving clients and this is by far the worst, do not let your loved ones be cared for by this company.

This is a challenging environment for someone with little to no experience, but for the right individual it is very rewarding and offers job experience you just can't find elsewhere. It takes a certain personality type to be successful: empathetic, strong willed, forgiving, patient, good communicator, follow instructions, learn quickly, read situations, non confrontational but honest and open. This is a great job because the rate of pay is good, the benefits and sickbays/vacaton is excellent and everyone really is doing their best to make things work. The job can be very physically demanding, mentally exhausting and emotionally draining, there is a high burnout rate, but those who love the work really love it. The individuals receiving service make everything worth it.

Supporting individuals with goals is very rewarding, however there is a lot of office politics and micromanaging that makes staff feel very burnt out. There is a lot of organized work-place bullying from management and they will intentionally avoid helping with training and answering questions. It’s worse for the workers that management doesn’t like personally. 
The company’s focus is profit— not seeing the success of staff or clientele, which becomes prevalent early in your career. 

Staff are encouraged to support clients in the community, but are not compensated for food or activities when they accompany clients with their chosen outings. Coffee/ food/ activities are out of workers’ pockets. Low mileage compensation. Low wage considering the cost of living. 

In the last couple of years (prior to the pandemic), things have declined significantly in terms of morale and poor management. Management pays little to no attention to the genuine complaints and concerns of their staff, resulting in a very unhealthy dynamic. TCS regularly disregards union policies by denying their employees accrued mileage and expenses. The amount of stress the unhealthy environment puts on the staff is not fair to the individuals supported here, or the workers. 
Things to note:
-they’ll make you use your personal phone for work, with a menial $10/month reimbursement 
-they hire people with grade 12 diplomas and nothing more
-you likely won’t receive any training 
Beware if you choose to work here! 

Not a positive place to work, very unrealistic expectations of people as well as they don’t pay well enough for what they expect you to do. No issues ever get solved, and the boss of the company has their head in the sand when it comes to issues. 

The individuals that require support deserve better higher up management to ensure they have the staff they need to receive the care that is needed daily. 

If you have any problems or inquiries about you job, expect them not to be solved and that it will be your fault. If you stand up to them regarding any unfair issues you will most likely be let go from your employment. 

Management only looks out for themselves and will step on anyone required to get to the top. 

Workplace culture is very unhealthy for anyone’s mental health resulting in high staff turn over 

I find that this company all in all is relatively consistent with their full time and part time staffing with regard to their job placement in a group home assignment. But I feel that their causal staffing needs to addressed as the management seems to go through a lot due to them going from home to home which adds to the stress of having to shadow the casual staff and so puts more stress on full time staff to ensure that chores and protocols are followed.  
As for permanent staffing, good. The homes are covered adequately. I find that another area that needs to be addressed is their vacation requests. Very confusing. I find that the homes themselves are aged and needing upgrading..mind you this is a private agency and thus cannot always address issues.

The care and respect for the individuals and employees can be seen and felt at TCS from the top down. TCS provides the opportunity for growth and advancement for those that want it.  Excellent benefits for anyone that holds a position over 20 hours.  Knowing that your solely responsible for enhancing the lives of individuals you support is the greatest gift! The residential programs are our homes away from home, the team is our family unit! I encourage anyone who likes to make a difference to join us! 
  If I’m honest, when I read some of the other reviews left here I cannot believe some of the right out lies. You cannot please everyone!  You only get out what you put in! I can see myself at TCS for years to come!

Experience I gained to work with difficult youth.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Bad managers. I don't know why Thompson  don't check their managers performance.---Managers in youth program.  They only listen to their managers without listening to the staff side of the story.  No support from management.  So if you have issue with your manager, you might as well quit.   

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Clean the house, ensure that clients is fed breakfast lunch and dinner.  Tend to the clients take them to school and  whatever activities they may have after school.  Make sure clients are ready for school.  Dealing with manager who is barely there.
