As a barista, my typical day would include opening the cafe and getting everything organized for the morning, such as make coffee, have milk and cream ready, put chairs down, organize to-go sandwiches and pastries and throughout the day making sure everything is run smoothly but also maintaining a fast pace with excellent customer service. I've learned to understand and adapt to people's different personality either it be co-worker or a customer and realize to deal with each person and situation differently and to be able to read a situation without making any assumptions. Also to push myself when i may feel overwhelmed and learn how to reorganize myself and make sure i can still deliver great customer service while still working at a high volume pace. Management was good they use to work with staff and listen to the needs of their employers and customers. The co-workers as a whole work in a very tight unit basically like a family and even if there is co-workers that are difficult to work with you still find the best the solution to continue working without fault.The hardest part is when we are understaffed because someone is sick and it's a very busy day. The biggest reward is even though it may get very busy and you can be working six hours straight with no break the team work that we put in with very minimal communication and just knowing help makes it worth it and it doesn't just feel like just another job.

•	Developed math and MATLAB/Simulink models for the study of circulating speed impact on the articulated vehicle's swept path, articulation angle, and accommodation while moving on roundabouts
•	Conducted NSERC engage project "Passing Collision Warning Systems (PCWS)" with Canadian company TranSoft Solution, Inc. Composed: full engine-drivetrain Simpack-model for automated transmission, integrated vehicle Simulink-model, new driving model based on the 2D sight perception of 3D perspective. Implemented an author's algorithm for the overtaking time forecasting based on the vehicle dynamic characteristics for several types of overtaking mode. The project and results were aimed to extend the company's activity area in the field of vehicle and infrastructure interaction.
•	Developed an original technique based on Adaptive MPC, FEM, and LQP for optimizing the path planning and speed distribution for a single autonomous car overtaking a long commercial vehicle on two-lane highways 
•	Have published 6 articles, including in the most prestigious North American journals like TRB, the downloading number of some of them has reached more than 1500 times
•	Got an award 1st place Winner in the nomination "The best paper": Proposed Collision Warning System for Two-Lane Highways. Canadian Society for Civil Engineering. Conference, Vancouver, May 2017

Teaching Assistant - Supply Chain Process Architecture

Being a student, a teaching assistant position is a very honourable position that awards high academic achievement. A typical day as a teaching assistant would mean on-call work as the semester progressed. The job responsibilities for myself were mainly grading student assignments, creating rubrics, assisting students, and invigilating exams. 

I have learnt a lot as a teaching assistant from the importance of protecting personal information to developing fair assessment tools. One of the most important lessons I have learned as a teaching assistant is to maintain constant communication with the supervising professor. As the semester progressed, I have learnt to appreciate the aforementioned more and more as the work begins to increase exponentially and deadlines become shorter.  

The teaching assistant role is a self-management role, where the supervising professor will occasionally give you tasks with specified or mutually agreed deadlines. 

The hardest part of the job would definitely be the fact that work would increase at the same time school work would increase. This meant increased burden of work during examination times.

The most enjoyable part of the job was the fact that teaching assistants have a view of the teacher's side of the educational process. To top it off, it also paid really well.   


Ryerson is tricky for me.  I thoroughly enjoyed the working culture, my colleagues and the work I did.  My manager on the other hand was extremely unprofessional, rude, spoke of other's personal medical issues to me, bullied and belittled me.  She chooses favourites and will make it open and apparent as to who she likes and does not like.  If she does not like you, you will be treated as though you are irrelevant and of low importance to her and the University.  She refuses to answer questions, gives rude gestures, yells, walks away when you ask questions or tells you to figure it out even though you are new, makes bullying and humiliating remarks towards you in front of others in a deliberate method to make you feel bad.  I never get upset at work and this woman made me cry in the bathroom because of her horrendous treatment of me.  She ruined this experience for me.  This woman should be fired.  I have never dealt with such a horrible manager in my entire life.  Other staff agreed after I left and told them specifically what I experienced.  They all said there is something wrong with her and she thinks she is more important than what she really is.  I am appalled that a University employs and individual like this.  Just because she does a good job on paper with regard to her work, does not mean she is suitable for a position of authority.  I am still shocked over how I was treated.

A typical day at work started off with the preparation of documents needed to complete an analysis of an allocated area, followed by the journey there. Once there, I would walk along streets, plazas and within malls known for commercial activity with a list of stores that have specific statistics associated with them, and confirm that they match. In the event that they don't, I would augment them so that they would. I would compile a few days worth of data then return to the lab where I would update the existing database with the new data I had acquired through my field work. This would be my main responsibilities. I have learned that commercial activity exists in even the most remote of areas. Management was very helpful in fulfilling an queries I had at the time and they were all very approachable. The hardest part of the job was working under the sweltering heat for hours. The most enjoyable aspect of the job was discovering new parts of Ontario I had never visited before.

A normal day at work would start off with performing a test of all the computers and printers to make sure that there are no errors. After that, it's a simple matter of having students fill out a form with their information, handing it to me to enter into the computer system, taking their photo for their student ID cards and allowing it to print on site. 

I've learned a lot about how to handle and manage situations that arise between the customer and employee, both negative and positive issues. In addition, I've learned how to maximize my time by performing other tasks when I'm currently not occupied with a customer or student. 

My co-workers made all the difference at this job and made work not seem like work at all. All my co-workers were fun, exciting and positive. 

The hardest part of my job was when my workstation developed problems and caused delays in my productivity. As a result, I couldn't process as many student as I normally could. 

The most enjoyable part of my job was to be able to assist and do my job effectively and efficiently.

Working at Ryerson is great. Working with other employees is a blast, everyday you are surrounded by ambitious individuals all chasing dreams. My time working at Ryerson felt more like being a part of a family. The managers are great, they are willing to help you out of any jam and are always there to converse with when you need them. The work space is great, the community of people that you run into make you feel respected and appreciated, work felt more like fun rather than an obligation. The hardest part of the job is managing your time, but after a good amount of experience I became pretty good at it. Over the course of my time there I learned so many skills that I will take to my next job with me. I learned how to manage my time, how to be a leader, how to work with others, how to problem solve and even how to deal with problematic situations and people. The most enjoyable part of my day is interacting with the clientele .

What is the best part of working at the company?
Professors are committed to high-impact mentorship ensuring that graduates and trainees get equipped to secure employment. There are EDI-driven programs. Postdoctoral Research Fellows enjoy the motivation to stay focused d and not worry about how to cover their health expenses through personal insurance. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The company has the will but needs more financial resources to hire trained postdoctoral research fellows in academic positions.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Friendly, collaborative, and creates significant opportunities for growth. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Full of independent work and collaborative research work through the computer/online platforms. Often, community engagement is integral to the synchronous work with a few opportunities for socialisation alongside work.

It is a volunteering position. I, as a student who did great in the course, taught other students in need the knowledge of the course after school one-to-one.
In order to provide more accurate and useful information, I reviewed the textbooks and in class slides and prepared some problems every time before I met the students. While tutoring, I tended to not only explain the solutions to them but also ask them similar questions afterwards to see whether they  comprehended completely. The time and place of tutoring were discussed by both of my student and I.
The hardest part of the job was to find the best, clearest way to explain the problems because the students were not quite familiar with the topics of the course. However, it is also the most enjoyable part of the job. The process of thinking and expressing gave me a lot of challenge and fun. And it was even more pleasing when the grades of the students got better.

A typical day at work would be serving food and beverage to clients, make sure everyone is having a great time and satisfied their needs.

I learned the you must be proactive, take responsibility for own actions, manage time well and more can be done faster and better in teams.

Management were pretty lenient, gave us our personal space to grow and learn by ourselves. But always there to make sure the job were done and tasks completed.

Great workplace culture, we were all friends, brothers and sisters mind-set at work. helped each other, care for each other .

During Pan Am Olympics, the volume of customers to be satisfied on a daily basis were insane. We manage to do it with planning, coordination, teamwork, critical thinking, managing and organization.

We always had a year-end party and those are the good time. Where everyone are having fun and a good time.
