Totally Raw Pet Food

PROS: 

* Can do you own school work while working, and in between customers as long as you do the light duties required 

* Light duties (sweeping, moping, stocking, sanitizing, filling treat bins) 

* You work alone, so you can just go at your own pace

* Admin staff, retail store leads, production workers, delivery drivers, and most part timers are fantastic. 

*Management within the stores and admin staff are supportive!, beyond that they're not (with the exception of one of the owners who's a true gem) 


CONS: 
* Upper management treats you like garbage, and everyone that isn't upper management 

*Miscommunication between lower levelled staff and upper management 

*If you're expecting to be added to the retail staff list to receive important emails even after asking more than 5 times (in person, email, text) since working here, don't be expected to be added to the list. 

* Cold when restocking the freezer 

* low pay when they used to pay above minimum wage and now they just pay minimum wage. 

*Constant (2x a year minimum) price increases on products, and having customers yell at you for the increases despite explaining why 

*Constant clashing of management and what they want done to/with the stores. 

*A lot of misinformation regarding your daily/weekly/monthly duties 

*Rules will be set up and changed to restrict you on what your job description entails just to spite you 

I was hired here for a little while and wow. How this place is still running is a mystery. The day time is not bad it is a very nice and quiet store. Everything else though is needlessly complicated. Night shift checklists are full of tasks that do make sense, but I do not understand things like making a single employee take stock of the entire store during a four hour shift when customers are still walking in and buying product. Closing is difficult and very easy to catastrophically mess up. My final day was me showing up to the store at 9am and being told by another employee that the people that owned the place (whom I never met) had decided to lay me off and then did not let me even work my last shift. Their reason being reports of me being rude to customers which is completely incorrect and unjustified and not being able to follow complicated procedures that were shoved onto me for me to deal with alone. 

In all, it’s not worth it. If you can’t stand the smell of fish then you would do best to not walk in the door.

I genuinely believe the people working here care and are great, however, there are no job descriptions, no foundation, no policies, no structure, lots of micromanaging, and it's frustrating trying to get anything done.  There are no expectations set or follow up (including minimal training, if any, and   no reviews). Changes are made on a whim, and suddenly become THE most important thing, with little to no thought about how to implement them and the outcome. The office is very reactionary, and often feels like everyone trying to fix problems instead of finding long term solutions. I openly discussed issues I saw and hoped to be able to make things better as I really want to see them succeed, but I finally decided I wouldn't be able to impact positive change. I do hope that changes are made so that my former colleagues have a better work/life balance and can work to make the company successful instead of always putting out fires.

 I've worked on and off with Totally Raw for several years (full-time and part-time while in school). 
I like to be busy and I have a lot of suggestions. Previous jobs were not always open to new ideas. Now I go to management and make recommendations and feel appreciated. 
Raw pet food is a topic I am passionate about. I have been feeding my own two dogs raw for seven years. The occasional customer stumps me with a question (not so much anymore) and I can always get clarification and support from other staff or management. 
Retail staff (I think production too) get paid sick time and health benefits. That is the first company I worked for with those perks- it is nice to feel appreciated.  

I was hired to manage the company's 3 retail outlets. I was to oversee the daily operations, hire and train staff, manage scheduling and product replenishment and the  other facets of retail management. However, I was expected to personally staff the main office store as a full time job on top of other management duties. 

The expectations of that were ridiculous. I was blamed for anything that was out of line in any of the locations, which could be valid were I able to actually visit the other stores. 

The "Owners" were horrible. They spurned any new ideas if they did not have them themselves and looked down on all of the staff. Not once did I feel appreciated at this company.

Take some advice, and stay back from this. It is not worth the stress or the headaches.

I love working for Totally Raw Pet Food, I love knowing that I'm helping dogs live their best and healthiest life possible by knowing the quality of the food and supplements I'm selling their owners are the highest quality possible and it's so much fun to have the dogs come in for a treat and visit. The staff are very kind and helpful with any problem solving issues and everyone is very supportive. It's a straight forward job with daily and weekly responsibilities that don't take a great deal of time to achieve. There is plenty of time to take a break when ever you wish once your responsibilities are done and relax and wait for your next furry friend to make your day.   

The work place culture is very tense. Management thinks they are above everyone and expects the people below them to ring the stores. Management is also on a constant rotation due to people leaving making constant stressful changes. Also your time off is not respected you are called/texted/emailed on days off and expected to be able to answer with already little time off. You work alone for 8 hours at a time with no real break since you aren’t allowed to close the store. As a Store Lead you have all of the stores responsibility’s on your shoulders as well as management not respecting you.

A hard place to work. 

You’re given daily and weekly tasks with little to no support. Training is nearly non existent and you’re expect to work on your own very quickly. 

The management structure is a joke. There’s layers and layers, people reporting to people and no direct lines of communications. 

Projects come and go at a whim of the “President”. She decides what is important and if you so much as speak a word against it or try to bring up valid points, you’re shut down and made a target. 

Avoid if you can, it’s not worth the constant stress and belittling.  

I have been working at Totally Raw while going to school for the last couple of years. Sometimes my school schedule has been chaotic. Work has an app where we can put in for leave, and any scheduling changes I need. That has been a great help to me.  
I haven't had a lot of interaction with upper management, but I haven't had any negative experiences. We have a direct manager that is very accessible. 
The company is growing quickly and sometimes it is hard to keep up. I have gone to the wrong store to start my shift a couple of times.
