Transat A.T

Worked for a female Manager in the Safety, Quality and Security Department. Bad management, no employee equality when it came to training, meetings, equipment, sick days, communication, does not make u feel part of a team, I was not allowed to ask questions as I was eagar to learn, etc..

Micromanaging, acting like a police with all the surveillances and keeping tabs on you. She is always right and other are wrong.  She will not allow you to be autonomous or take initiative, she will not help you to be successful. She has issues with trust, and does not trust her employees, she is paranoid, who is always suspicious of wrong doings. 

Very negative, racist as they get all the training and attention.  I had to report to her of my whereabouts, tell her when I made up my time, tell her I recorded my absences in the timesheet.  I was treated like a child in daycare to report to her for everything.  I could not even send an invitation and do my work, because she thinks she is the best at doing it..

I got no integration, no training what so ever, no orientation about the company or organization. The Manager cannot make up her mind, you will have endless corrections, as she keeps changing the texts  She will blame you for not taking good minutes, because hers are better and it will take her weeks to correct them.  Your to blame she is always right, get easily frustrated.

She went crazy on me, she shouted at me, to write what she tells me, did not care what I had to say, then she shouted a few times to get out of her office, because I told her u told me last time not to do it that way, and now u telling me the exact thing u did not want me to do. Then she blames me  on my performance, when she is the one that keeps changing her mind.

 Since she is always right  She came to my cubicle and shouted you better have the minutes on my desk.  I was afraid she was going to hit me.  The office heard her unprofessional management skills.

She does not care about the employees needs, just her needs.

I know other managers seem to be very easy going and I know they would of appreciated me, making going to work enjoyable.

I had employers who trusted me and allowed me to take decisions and take the initiative and be and Administrative Assistant.

The Training Department I was in gave me the opportunity to shadow the call centre department, the commercial marketing department and to be on the road with an outside sales agent. I learned about the job requirements for each post while doing my internship there.

As for the specific duties and tasks assigned to me, I translated powerpoints for the trainers from English to French and vice versa; I also created and updated powerpoints for Transat A.T. I handled incoming and outgoing English and French phone calls (internal and international) and I was in charge of answering both French and English email inquiries. I got to conduct research on suppliers as well as Transat A.T products and services. In addition to all this, we were in charge of updating and cleaning the e-library (hotels' information) and transfering data from old Property Information Forms to new ones.

Softwares most used were: Outlook, Excel, and Powerpoint.

Moreover, the other interns and I were able to successfully delegate tasks amongst ourselves.

Besides the assigned work, I also participated in their social activities and helped on Earth's day by stick labeling all the courtesy gifts Transat A.T was offering to their staff members.

The hardest part of the job was having to let go of a project you have been working on for weeks because it could get dropped at any time. This happens a lot when in travel. New destinations are in and out or pending.

The most enjoyable part of the job was feeling like a staff member and not just an intern there. We got to participate in social events just like the other staff members.

The people make the job amazing. Middle management is cycled and like any big company who you know takes president over who has skills to manage. Over all it's not a bad company, it's always hard to deal with so many different personalities in a constantly evolving industry. Upper management does a profitable job and are very successful at satisfying share holders and guaranteeing their bonus pay outs. It's a unionized company so that helps when their leadership is strong, the opposite when it's not. Profit sharing does not trickle down and front line employees, crew members are often taking the brunt of work and issues from both ends. Your coworkers really make your day and are often supportive. It's a tight knit culture with allot to look forward to. Advancement opportunities are there too. Post Covid has exposed the reality that we are just numbers and the company resents our union contract and does all it can to work around it and keep you seperated from your hard earned money. It's a job. Employees are not their priority, profitability is. 

I have been part of the Transat family for 23 uears.  In the beginning of my career with Transat i held a position in the call center offering a quality customer service to travel agents.  These calls consisted of sales of our products and general information on our products.  Making reservations and closing sales.  After holding that position for 9 years, i moved up to the Data Management Department as a Data Management agent.  This has given me the opportunity to gain experience in analyzing contracts from our suppliers, and inputting the information in our in house system that in turn allowed the consumer to be able to display our products on all the sites that our products were offered.  The responsibility of this position is to have skills to be able to work closely with other important department in order to make it possible that the consumer can have accessibility to a efficient and quality product.  My intentions are not to leave the company but reason being i have been temporarily laid off since April 21, 2020 due to the pandemic i would like to give myself the opportunity to explore , expand my horizons and gain new experience in other areas.

A typical day will start with a crew briefing where we all meet and discuss the flight to come. Taking care of the passenger's comfort and safety is our number one priority. Many different people come on board with different levels of stress, travel purposes and medical conditions. I was trained to reassure the nervous one and to know how to react in case of an abnormal situation. I have been working with different crews everyday for the past five years. Team work is very important as we have many responsibilities on board. Throughout the years working in a confined environment with different co-workers and passengers, I have learned that every problem has its solution. Keeping calm truly does help one to take clear decisions and also helps the people around to stay focus. 
Air Transat is a great company to work for as it has standards that are oriented on great service and prompt attitude. The hardest part of my work would be the long hours keeping me away from my family. The best part is creating memories with them and others while taking my passes to travel.

I love working as a flight attendant I got to see so many cities places during the summer. The summer is where most of the work is. After summer you are basically on-call and is broke for maybe 5 months or so until the next summer... Rest in between flights during the summer is definitely not enough and you end up burned very quickly. Most people are exhausted but will never tell you but it is on everyone's face but traveling is what keeps them tied to the job.  Pay is fair but the pay system need major improvement. ALOT of unpaid labor ... The company is not bad, very friendly towards us and willing to listen to our complaints but definitely needs some more improvement. Management lacks a little bit of experience and it reflects on their way of implementing procedures. FAs and pilots are the ones on the front line despite fully being aware of this fact, that most companies refuse to listen to our suggestions to improve our in-fligh work. But no companies are perfect, it really depends on your personal experience.  If you do not like to work LONG HOURS do not bother...  A typical day of work can be 10-14hrs depending of destinations and delays or other issues. 

I think the quality of customer service of U Travel & Tours was average. Managers have their own way to deal with their customers; for example, my general manager likes to talk a lot with the customer and she has very good customer service in terms of icebreaking skills and following-up skill. 
  Most of the tasks which were given to me were research some tourism products, such as Eurail, flights, vacation tour packages, and hotels for the clients. There were other co-op students so that we worked together for collecting the information of the tourism products. Sometimes we needed to call tour operators to get prices of the products, and we shared the information each person got. It was a very good opportunity to work with other people in business environment.
  The most important things that I learned during my field placement are that helping and respecting customers, obtaining knowledge and showing enthusiasm. I had to think customers are always right, but the reality is different from what the customers think.

It was a great time to work there since it was way before the pandemic. The training was great. I felt valued even though there could had been a few improvements which might have improved by now. 

Unfortunately, due to life circumstances, I had to move away from my base and I just couldn't keep commuting. Otherwise, I would have stayed there for life.  It was my dream-come-true job (traveling to new places and meeting new people.)

Salary wise, it was okay, it can definitely be better, but the young me was happy to just travel. Also, the benefits for traveling when not on duty, was a complicated system, so I really hope that's better now. 

I also liked the seasonal changes, where during fall and winter, it was slower and had less layover and during spring and summer, it was busy and had long layovers. I also went through layoffs but I found that layoff was good for physically (and mentally) recovering from a busy summer. 

A typical day at work:
I usually came a half an hour earlier to ran double booking and sales reports. I checked my e-mail for any new travel agencies registrations. As soon as my shift started, first, I prioritized my work. Then I dedicated my time to verify all the booking reservations for any errors and  advising the respective travel agents of the found booking mistakes. I adjusted travel agents' commissions. I was advising travel agents of any available company promotions.

What I learned:
I learned to prioritize my job, work independently and multitasking

Management:
Very poor management, usually was lack of communication between the subordinates and management

Co-workers:
Fun to work with. During downtime, we were socializing and joking

The hardest part of the job:
Luck of communication between management and employees

The most enjoyable part of the job:
The variety of challenges to be accomplished

I learn to manage with all kind of people as fast as possible because I had to manage with all kind of situation directly at the airport. I love to work and find solution to make the customers happy. It was a good place to work with positive coworkers. It is a center open 24/24 7 days a week, so working until 23pm was not my favorite part. Especially when the schedule is always a new one. I had to take it week by week, almost day by day. I did it and I will always ready to do it, if I am really into my job. The thing was, I was working on the phone and I am the kind of person who needs to work with people. I need to communicate ideas, projects, sales in real, face to face. It was a very good company to discover new countries, new culture and I learned a lot of things, because of my coworkers who come from all over the world.
