I was incharge of reviewing resumes and recomending interviews for qualified candidates, performed interviews and hired candidates. Conducted welcoming session for new employees and took care of all paperwork needed. I was also ask to perform special assigments within the hospital management such as reviewing and noting issues with the system used to performed procedures with patients.
I learned a lot about teamwork, interacting with others, being able to recognize patients needs and being able to meet those needs. Management was very good and very accesible, my co-workers were great people commited to helping others. The hardest part of the job for me was not being able to help everybody and the most fullfiling part was seen the smiles on patients faces after we heloed them.

It was an honor to serve veterans in medical settings. However, the Atlanta VAMC is a very low performing hospital due to a combination of factors. Most processes are poorly planned, ineffectively implemented, and improperly monitored. There is poor communication within and across departments/units, inefficiency, insensitivity, and poor customer service. It was painful to see patients denied competent care, dignity, and respect. As an employee, I was not given access to the most basic resources needed to perform my job. My concerns and needs were often ignored or met with contempt. I have never been that miserable at work. I would never work there again unless I had the power to help to completely overhaul the Atlanta VAMC

I worked 12 hrs shifts & if an employee called off then you had to stay. One day when it snowed & people couldn't get to job, we had to stay with no sleep or break. Next morning, I was informed that I may have to stay another 12 hrs. Explained I'm going home no matter what. I did stay until My replacement came but not staying 12 more hrs!  Management is partial when promoting people. I worked nightturn & put in for nurse manager. I didn't get the job & had asked why & was told it was because I worked nightturn! Does that make me an less knowledgeable? They wanted me to be nurse manager when I first came but I refused due to family. Now I'm refused. Pay & benefits were good.  I had my BSN & MSN & MBA & was going to work on my doctorate!

Typical 8 hour bedside nursing care on rotating shift.
You learned about families is your fellow veterans, learning new experiment procedure and tech nursing skills.
Not the most understanding and friendly management, but you learn worked with your boss with understanding and respect.
Excellent CO-workers, fun to work with, always there to gives you a hand if you needed.
Most hartest part of the jobs is, you can never do enough for the veterans.
The most enjoyable and rewarding part of the jobs is, taken care of your fellow veterans, your familes.

I volunteered to entertain veterans.  Each Friday for nine weeks, I danced and talked with the veterans.

I learned about the veterans lives, the difficult time of aging and different sicknesses that occur at that age

Great management, there was a lot of security at the hospital. Not anyone could just show up.

Even though a hospital does not promote the happiest atmosphere, the volunteers and the veterans smiled and had a good time.

The hardest part of the job was to see the sick veterans and to see them suffering.

The most enjoyable part of the job was to see the veterans smile and to see that we made them happy.

Helping veterans improve their health in order to be discharged from the hospital was the most enjoyable part of the job. Unfortunately, rude behavior from doctors often hampered my ability to fully communicate patient concerns.
Policies in place to define teamwork and responsibilities were ignored. Instead of being helpful, supervisors resorted to bullying and backstabbing.
The hardest part of the job was deciding that it was better to leave than fight management.

The management and supervisors of VA Lajola Medical Center continue to support and recommend me even though I was not a permanent employee.  I recommend them highly and would go back in a second if I could get a full time position.

Fantastic to work with and support brothers and sisters in arms, however, they pay far lower (nursing) than other equally large healthcare org.  Budger restraints have blocked so many employee pay increases.

Work freely , without stress get your fund , and get all advantages on it 
You enjoy the benefits of the company once you become the full member with great potentials 

good company. takes a while to move up. slow environment hard for a transition from military to civilian / federal workforce. wish there were more opportunity for physical activity and less repetitive trainings.
