Responsibilities:
-	Develop financial goals for donors in keeping with the bigger picture of the overall campaign objectives
-	Provide revenue projections for Major Donor Resource Development Team
-	Provide strategic direction through the Business Review, Business Plan and Work Plan for the 2012 campaign
-	Solutions-oriented – shown through working creatively with Community Investment Team to build projects and products that were clear and concise for the major donor segment
-	Develop cross-functional, collaborative relationships with Resource Development, Community Investment and Marketing and Communication teams to strengthen the management side and establish best practices for developing resources
-	Manage  high net worth volunteers for the Major Individual Giving Cabinet, working through a restructuring and culture change within the organization
-	Champions and demonstrates diversity and equity learning within staff team
-	Develop Stewardship Strategy for key stakeholders, volunteers and donors
-	Develop marketing strategy for the three Diversity Councils (South Asian, Chinese and Black) 
-	Grew donor portfolio by 14% in the major gift segment while retaining over 92% of segment

I would not recommend working at United Way to anyone.  Avoid working here at all costs.  The offer on paper looks great and you will leave a secured job to go to United Way with high hopes, to go from Part Time to promised Full Time.  Leaving secure employment to go to unsecured employment unless you know the right people within the company.  I was fooled into working at their location in FortMcmurray.  Week after week there was an employee in and out the door.   Lack of work, poor training and no explanation of the job provided.  Expected to use your personal vehicle to run errands without compensation.  Got sick with covid and the second day back at work, fired without cause.  I would stay far away.   UNITED WAY it's self is amazing, been around for years long before I was even thought of.  Working with other organizations who believe in community impact is amazing.  Good luck to anyone who works here, recommend doing your research.

If you are at any level a conscientious worker, this organization will suck the life and soul out of you, and appear to enjoy doing it. Management is dysfunctional and toxic and doesn't know the meaning of Leadership. They'll hire you supposedly because of your skill and experience, and then they will stifle, ghost and gaslight you until you can't remember what it felt like to believe in yourself and work with confidence and pride. This place will take all the many, extra hours and effort you give it and then chastise you for working all that overtime and say that if you had any ability you could get the work done in half the time ... ergo the gaslighting. Pure, unhinged chaos. Direction changes on a dime, staff turnover is off the charts (understandably),  people are constantly on stress leave, management is untrustworthy, fake/phony and manipulative. If that's how you are, you'll probably do well at UWCA. Otherwise, if you value your mental (and physical) health, spend your valuable time wisely on applying for a position with an organization that treats its employees with respect and care and conducts itself with integrity.

A tough place to work.  A real mess that cannot seem to get organized after COVID.  You would think a charitable organization would have some empathy and ethics in their treatment of staff, but upper management is only concerned with holding their jobs.  There is no direction or guidance, and support in any form is non-existent, this is not a "team" environment.  The result is high staff turnover and the loss of some very smart people.  The CEO is only accessible to senior management - who are hopelessly over their heads with no idea of how to manage departments or individuals.  Worst leadership I have ever experienced.  Unexperienced "favorites" of the managers and senior leadership call the shots, so be prepared to bow down and take orders from people with little to no real-life experience. (And the Board of Directors does nothing to improve things)

A typical day at work for me is handling the vice president's calendar, responding to emails from non-profit agencies (member agencies), arranging meetings for various committees, photocopying, faxing, assisting co-workers in my team with word processing, excel and anything else.  Proof-read documents, track monies spent on different programs.

I have learned that United Way does not just help financially, but the committees work towards making an impact on policies, etc.

Management is very fair and really have open doors.

Co-workers are very cooperative and helpful - it's a united environment.

Hardest part of my job is taking minutes for a conference call meeting.

The most enjoyable part of the job is assisting everyone and anyone that requires assistance.

United Way of Calgary and Area is fundamentally broken, and it all boils down to leadership. The senior leadership culture is best described as catty, and is outright hostile to anyone who doesn't prop up the fragile egos of "impact leaders" (a.k.a. Sales & Marketing VPs). The result is a staggering amount of gaslighting and gossiping at very senior levels. Leaders refuse to communicate via email to avoid creating paper trails, will routinely change their mind on work direction and insist otherwise when confronted about it, and will fabricate stories about you to share with individuals inside and outside the company in an attempt to force your compliance. 

I can't in good conscience recommend this organization to anyone, not until the board of directors actually steps in and cleans things up. In addition to the, frankly, inhumane treatment of staff, the sheer volume of donor dollars being wasted on propping up poor leadership is shameful. 

Working at United Way you feel like you are contributing to the community. It was an excellent learning experience. There is a learning environment and people are very supportive at work. Everyday you are expected to keep busy and take on responsibilities.

All the employees are easy to get along with and very helpful. This is an amazing company to work for. They were very flexible with personal schedules and life events. The environment of the company is very friendly and the team is very supportive. There are a lot of opportunities to grow and the ambiance of the office keeps you enthusiastic.

Teamwork and collaboration were key in this work environment. Also, an incredible place to network. Some very dedicated people and many dedicated staff members. They're working hard to create a corporate culture that supports collaboration and development.

I accepted a term position with United Way straight out of business college.  On the down side, it was a minimum wage job with no benefits and no potential to advance.  It was also seasonal from September to May.  On the up side, it was a relaxed atmosphere with lots to do but never overwhelming.  It is a great job for someone just starting out in the work force looking to gain office experience. Answering phones, processing mail/email and recording donations were the bulk of the job.  The staff is completely different since I worked there so I can't comment on staff or management.  There were no parts of this job that were difficult.  I enjoyed going to work everyday.  I enjoyed the atmosphere and the relationships with the other staff.

•	Provide secretarial support to managers including calendar management.
•	Perform routine office functions such as typing, photocopying, correspondence filing, faxing, handling mail and maintaining stationery supplies etc.
•	Schedule and manage team meetings which include booking and logistics, agenda preparation, minute taking and distribution.
•	Data entry into specific office software database programs.
•	Receive enquiries and provide information or redirect as necessary.
•	Maintain an efficient, user-friendly tracking system for all requests. 
•	Maintain positive working relationships with internal and external clients.
•	Routinely follow up on all requests made to ensure project database and materials inventory is current.

Working with United Way allowed me to see the community through a different, often unseen lens/perspective. Though the office culture can be a little stagnant and the advancement limited, the by-product of engaging with community and helping make real change happen is one of the positive aspects of working for this organization. 
There is a definite need for management to do  better job of retaining and engaging good talent and better aligning that talent to the overall strategy. Workplace culture does lag due to a lack of investment in human potential and growth within the organization.
The work-life balance is good, the benefits are good, and the vacation and pension are the reason that many people choose to stay put.
