A typical day at work is stress free and easy so long as you're prepared (time-wise) within your shift to account for any unexpected messes. I learned about different how to optimize cleaning for different criteria (speed v.s. thoroughness).
Management was generally pretty easy to get along with. Work well, be honest and they will be your friend.
The culture varies dramatically between schools. Some places I have heard are nightmares to work with the drama hanging in the air. I did not have this experience personally, people were nice to me. However, you will meet people who are very lazy, and do not work appropriately. Sometimes it can be easy to become like them, but I promise the job is better if you try to clean to a quality you are personally proud of.
The hardest part of the job was the heat during summer cleaning. Many of the schools are too old to have AC installed throughout the building, and any school with an upper floor will collect a lot of heat unless you make a point to open and close windows appropriately each day. If you are not mindful, it can become almost 15 degrees hotter inside than outside. Otherwise the hours can be a little hard to get used to.
There are many nice parts of this job. One is the satisfaction of looking back on a room you just finished waxing the floor of and seeing a perfect, shimmering gloss stretched over the entire floor. Another is gratitude from teachers and other staff for cleaning things that others might forget, or helping when it isn't necessary.

What is the best part of working at the company?
One of the best parts of working at the company is being part of a supportive team environment where everyone works together and helps each other grow. I also enjoy the opportunity to learn new skills and build positive relationships with both colleagues and families.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
One of the more stressful parts can be managing multiple responsibilities at once, especially during busy times. However, I see it as an opportunity to stay organized, improve my time management skills, and work well as part of a team

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment feels welcoming, respectful, and team-oriented. A positive workplace culture where communication, collaboration, and support are valued is very important to me, especially in a setting that works closely with children and families

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day involves supporting children’s learning and development through activities, teamwork, communication with colleagues and families, and creating a safe and positive environment. Every day is a little different, which keeps the work engaging and rewarding.

I had talked for over 30 years before I was hired with this board. I came here after my retirement and worked with part-time contracts. It was here my troubles began. The first two schools I worked at were great and so were the principles and teachers. Period after that the troubles began. I ran into principles who thought they were demigods and were very demanding over the slightest things. Several times I had to involve the union and go above the principal to the superintendent. I was under extreme stress for the years that I did stay with upper Canada and I found their actions to be unprofessional. My mental and physical health suffered and I learned from many others that this was the case with this board . I had taught most of my career with with the Ottawa.  Carlton Board of Education and had never in my life seeing some of these things happen. I also had taught in Alberta for 12 years and once again all my experiences with my two different board has been very pleasant. It was the principals and the board that caused my grief.

Loved my hours and what I did. Excellent benefits.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
There wasn’t much stress at my last place of work. Loved it.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
You’re really just a number. After 23 years in the board, I’ve been left with nothing, the way the staffing is set up. As. 0.75 employee I cannot bump anyone who is a 1.0 who may have started just last month. Very unfair set up

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Loved what I did. Mostly guidance, student records, attendance, historical grades, loved interacting with adult students and seeing them succeed.

The work for the most part is fun.
You do your job and are left alone to do it .
Breaks are recess and lunch. Most teachers don't know how to "use" their EA's. Some of the jobs are one-on-one, other's   you are assigned to a classroom and float around the room working with kids who need the help.
You are not required to attend staff meetings, but we do, because most or all of the information does not concern EA's. If it pertains to us the teacher will fill you in in the morning. Social life can make or break a school,as can the principal. Your lucky to get a good social comity that pans  a lot of events,get good turnouts and have fun.

UCDSB mission is to prepare all students for a successful life, which is guided by a three-year Strategic Plan known as CREW, which sets out various projects to help the Board improve the education and wellness of staff and students. These projects fall under four general areas: Collaboration, Resources, Educational Programs and Wellness. We use the Strategic Plan to set achievable goals and to track our progress.

The most enjoyable part was working with the special needs kids. They provided a challenge on a regular basis, kept me on my toes but the work was always rewarding, a sense of humor was a necessity!

I learned more patience, and how to keep a step ahead at all times.

The staff were always great to work with, there was always a sense of family within the school.

Those days when no amount of coaxing or convincing would work.

Unfortunately, it is very hard to get full-time job within the board.
You need to spend many years networking and meeting other board principals and staff members with the hope to get hired full-time and not just a casual staff employee.
Every school is different culture so best to be very adaptable!
HR testing is archaic as they expect you to have things memorized that are used only in the school system so difficult to new board applications.

Busy which I really like customer service attention to detail
