A typical day at work would be basically to follow and adhere to any given instructions by your superior (anyone with more experience) and any other sprinkler fitting/construction duties.

I learned how to become more thick skinned. I learned how to work away from home for long hours (21 days x 12 hours). I learned about construction. I learned how to use different types of tools. 

The management seemed pretty good from what I could tell. Didn't often deal with directly.

My co-workers were hit and miss. Some guys were awesome to work with, while others were miserable and moody.

Hardest part of the job was learning something completely foreign and to be expected to learn on the fly and never forget. Also the out of town stints in Fort McMurray were starting to take their toll. Also, dealing with co-workers who thought doing hard drugs, drinking all night, and paying people to sleep with were a good idea to the wee hours of the morning. Also, the job insecurity of never knowing if and when you'd be working, or where.

Most enjoyable part of the job were the paycheques. Even as a first year, you get paid well. The benefits/CPP were also great. Learning how to use different tools and being at different job sites; jails, hospitals, sporting arenas, towers, etc. was pretty cool, too.

All the technicians are great. Willing to help, very supportive, and always ready to teach one another. I'm very happy to be able to still call these guys friends even after changing employers. 

Management was always understanding and accommodating in the event of any scheduling conflict. I had a good relationship with my direct supervisor. When my work ethic and quality slipped during a difficult period of my life, growth and understanding was extended, not reprimand and discipline. 

Unfortunately, the recent purchase of the company had spawned some growing pains. The bosses, now having bosses, made getting answers to important questions more difficult.

I left the company for a significant salary increase, more comprehensive benefits package, and to explore new technologies. The company *was* far behind in similar market compensation packages. I am happy to hear now that all of my former coworkers have received a pay rise and further cost of living adjustment.

The exit interview was bittersweet in the sense that I was leaving people that I learned from and cared about, but was a good long-term career decision. I was left with a friendly handshake, jokes, and an offer to come back and chat if things didn't go well at the new job. 

Arrive at 7:15 am to get myself prepared for my start time at 8:00am
Review priorities, prepare schedue for the day, start my work.
Payables, Payroll, Collections, Material orders to price, prepare monthly reports for month-end, prepare bank deposit and phycically go to the bank, etc.  Everyday I must prepared for schedule for the day and follow thru.Very busy environment. Calling customers for late payments (enjoyable). Always be ready if the Boss and or other employees need something/answer, etc.  Fast pace environment and co-workers always happy to help - we all help each other when in need. I don't usually stop for lunch but that's just who I am.  Finish work at 5PM but if need be I didn't mind staying longer.  I enjoy working.

The rose coloured glasses came off quickly for this job and overall wouldn’t even recommend the Ottawa location to people I don’t like. I received only two days training from an employee who was already one foot out the door and only received follow up from management during a post three month “review”. There is an inherent lack of communication in all aspects of work at vipond, and management doesn’t seem to want to work with employees to achieve progress. 

To top off the stressful and caustic environment that vipond Ottawa has created, there is zero job security. If you don’t play ball with them and the sketchy work they do, they’ll just fire you without cause.

All in all, don’t work here. This job pays under competitive rates and piles on any work that may remotely fall under your job description. The stress and toxic coworkers are not worth it, go somewhere else.



The job was in Saskatoon Saskatchewan which may have contributed to the low pay culture. Large sprinkler division and good sized fire alarm side. They provided decent vehicle and tools. Poor paying - at least on the fire side. Management guilty of gaslighting employees - especially at review time - to justify stingy pay. They hire unskilled people to help as assistants which is another nod to the cheap side. If you go out of town you have to share a hotel room with the assistant - seriously... One of those assistants happened to be the boss' son. Real high maintenance... Must sleep with the TV on, unreliable and pretty much useless on the job. Can't say anything though. Okay, I need to quite talking now. I think you get the picture.

Lots and lots and lots of changes  all for the better over the last year. Newer management are very engaged in our training and really promote a positive workers culture. Most of my miserable and useless coworkers have now left and replaced with some really great people. They do appreciation days where we played yard games with pizza in summer and recently we had a beer food and bowling day. Its the kind of place where if you work and do a good job you feel valued. A year ago I would have said Vipond was a bit better or the same as everywhere else I had ever worked. Today, It's the best place I have ever worked. I look forward to a hopefully long career here. Please please please keep it up.

Was showing to be a major player in the industry. Something changed in last 2 years and the changes are not good. The overall morale is very bad. No one trusts leaders. Management has become a joke. The industry is laughing at us . What happened?

Full time work with good health benefits very good pension and well worth crue to working with

Bad communication with the crues so it créatimg a bad communication

Vipond was a very good company to work for until they changed their Management team. The last few years they have totally lost their way. Result has been dozens of quitting staff and many more talking of leaving. They had a good culture but that is no longer the case. Not a happy staff at all in most depts.
