WFCU Credit Union

Before you consider going through the 5 stage hiring process, you need to know a little more about WFCU. Everyone that gets hired though the credit union will be hired part time. Rarely do you get hired full time. Expect to work every single Saturday and Sunday. 

A typical day is helping members with their cashing of cheques or making deposits. As a consultant you are also to reach goals of over draft, credit cards and loans as well as line of credits. You will be giving a goal of that. Also cold calling, you will have goals for that to. 

it is difficult and stressful as you usually have a lot of stuff you are working on, but need to help members that are waiting and never getting to finishing the work. 

Fair warning, do not make a mistake, otherwise start looking for another job, as you will be gone quickly. Your pay with be low 30s either salary or in the range of 15-17. 

The turnover within this company is the highest i have ever seen. They cant seem to hold onto their employees. For a company that has 200 employees, it is not unusual to see 1-2 employees every two weeks either leaving or being fired. Also be prepared to work an extra 30 minutes a day without pay. 

so before you consider working with the credit union, just remember the things here. This is not your typical bank job, you will be doing both sales and service. expect stress to come and you will have management on you for every mistake you make.

One of the most glaring problems was the lack of effective leadership. The absence of a capable manager resulted in a disorganized and chaotic workplace. Important decisions were often delayed or mishandled, leading to confusion and frustration among employees. Without clear guidance and direction from higher-ups, team members were left feeling unsupported and uncertain about their roles and responsibilities. This had a detrimental effect on morale and productivity.

Another significant concern was the HR department's lack of effectiveness and support. Despite being made aware of the challenges posed by the leadership and the negative work environment, HR failed to take appropriate action

Moreover, the level of stress within the company was overwhelming. Unreasonable workloads and tight deadlines became the norm, leaving employees overburdened and burnt out. The absence of work-life balance and constant pressure to meet unrealistic expectations had a detrimental impact on employees' mental and physical health.

Took this job and within training regretted it, quit and went back to my old position in a week and a half. The dress code is about 5 pages long for women down to what material and fabrics are acceptable to wear. They’re stuck in the 1950s. I was dress coded for wearing a dress that when I sat down it showed my knee and part of my thigh. I was told it was fine standing but I needed to be mindful to pull it down when sitting. I had to remove all of my piercings and could not have any visible tattoos. Also as a woman I was basically required to wear make up every day, have my hair done and something on my lips. 

It’s also not a stable position. They don’t tell you where you get placed until the middle of training. I lived in Amherstburg and got placed in Windsor, yet other people from Windsor got placed in Amherstburg. Made no sense. They can also move you at any time. You can get a call that you’re moving branches and you have no choice but to comply. 

The job itself seemed fine during training other than management being on me about my dress length when sitting… but I could not get past the company culture to even stay long enough.

WFCU is a great place to work but they are very strict in areas that seem odd. Their dress code I think seems stuck behind the other FI's, still requiring suits of the staff on the frontlines. All coworkers know this and you often feel like if you aren't following that dress code like anyone around you could send an email to HR. 
On the flip side while the salary is... average, they do offer many opportunities, gifts, or thoughtful gestures to entice workers like Sports tickets, gift cards, a CUdos program so coworkers can rate eachother highly for better gift cards at the end of the year (like a merited Christmas bonus in July) and a very nice Christmas party. Stay in line and you will have a good time so long as you enjoy the work you are doing.

If you plan on having a separate life from work don't waste your time applying here and there is not much room for growth. I   applied for the member consultant position which I was hired part-time for except they wanted me to be available full time and free even on the days I wasn't scheduled. During my interview process none of the 3 people that interviewed me had mentioned that, even though it was made clear that I had other commitments. Expect to work every Saturday if your'e part time. I  tried booking a Saturday off 2 months in advance for a wedding and they had an issue with that. You'll do a lot of tedious unnecessary work, and the environment created makes you feel like you're constantly walking on egg shells, everyones fake nice to one another . Overall I  was left with a bitter taste in my mouth.

Underpaid, overworked, and constantly expected to take on the responsibilities of multiple people while also training new employees with little to no support. Management and team leaders create a toxic, manipulative environment that clearly contributes to high staff turnover, yet nothing is ever addressed.

There is little support from HR or management, employees are heavily micromanaged, and the workplace culture feels tense and uncomfortable. Proper training is almost nonexistent, morale is very low, and it’s obvious that many employees are unhappy. Overall, a very stressful and poorly managed place to work.

The typical day centred around meeting with and discussing financial planning and transactions with members. Large amount of information had to be retained about the credit union and its culture as well as training for financial planning for members. Management and co-workers were friendly and genuinely concerned with the success of the team. The best part of the job was working with members and assisting them to achieve their financial goals.

The branch staffwas great to work with.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Upper management. Know one seems to know what the other is doing. Afraid to speak and told not to by upper management not too.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Toxic. They are reactive not proactive. Terrible training program.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Extremely busy, not enough staff and  very stressful trying to find time to do job. New asks every week.

Great benefits overall and perks. Absolutely horrendous culture that’s two faced at the executive level. The last thing you should ever do is be honest if something is making you unhappy, despite them asking for honest input. Executives love to play political schemes and you will be stonewalled if you can’t successfully navigate it.
You will likely be under resourced and expected to exceed expectations.


Very stressful place to work. Very toxic work environment. Management acts friendly but are not friendly. A lot of changes in the departments. No heads up is given before any changes. Management don’t really care. Every week you see people leaving. Those who stay, are who worked here for a decade and longer. 

Benefits are good but thats how they retain the staff.
