Wedgewood Hotel

I worked full-time and I had no support from my department. When it was busily flooded with clients, I had to run around all over the place completing tasks by myself. When I reached out to help, the other employees had other priorities to complete. They do not pay you over-time unless there was a special exception approved by management.

I came to an understanding that the Wedgewood Hotel is a small property and I know they do not want to invest in hiring more employees. However, when you are short on employees, employees begin to feel overworked and unmotivated-which increases turnover. It is quite simple to fix but not a lot of companies understand how important employees play a part in the workforce. Employees are the people is one of the main reason the hotel is running smoothly. 

Wedgewood Hotel lacks giving autonomy to employees. I felt restricted doing my tasks and had no authority whatsoever which for one resulted in clients waiting for long periods of time because I needed approval from management.

If you want to work here, be prepared to get little support from management and dealing with a ton of workload. Also, the pay here wasn't the best, I worked in various cooperations and small business that pay better and recognize your talents. You can barely move up in the hotel because it is so small with barely any positions. 

The only thing I enjoyed about this was leaving this place and landing at a non-toxic workplace. 




I worked in the front desk department. Working at the hotel is a collaborative work environment and other staff went out of their way to help each other out and are very kind and hardworking. Further supporting the environment were many repeat guests and staff that had been working at the hotel for 20+ years. There is also opportunity to advance career and pay.

Worse place I have worked at.  People are not very friendly or welcoming to new staff.  And the some staff are not very hygienic.  Training is not good and they lose their patience very easily with you.  Feels like I was in high school and they are always talking unpleasant things about other people at the work place.  The only good thing is they provide meal during your shift but for the staff that has been working there for awhile, they get bored of the food the hotel provides.  

There was a consensus in every department save for Guest services that management treated us poorly. Some colleagues are great and worth working alongside. Often times expectations were ridiculously high. We felt overworked, underpaid and micromanaged. Work culture isn't great, people lash out at eachother in frustration due to stress or run of the mill drama.

Excellent place to work to grow your career in the hospitality industry. Good  workplace culture. Expect to provide guests with the highest level of service.
Long hours during the busy Christmas may be overwhelming to some. Also, the majority of the hotel is non-union so the wages aren't as high/competitive as other unionized hotels.

The work culture is really nice, everyone is very easy to talk to. It’s a hands on property so you can get cross trained across departments.

Really suits eager people, early in their career with a goal to learn the luxury market.

So far, I've witnessed three promotions within the hotel. Expect to be hands on, and know the ins and outs of the operation. Your job will encompass all aspects of guest services! 

Let me be clear that the management is very old school and cannot, and will not, take advice from those who may know more about what can increase sales, or improve the establishment. If you like a place that is set in its ways and abhors change then this is the place for you. 

Flexible hours, Amazing kitchen space. Alright equipment, But very well maintained. Frequent change of some kitchen members. But it's to improve the performance and the product quality.
