Westcorp

Is Westcorp a good company to work for? I’m going to have to say no. I have worked for Westcorp for several years now, at the beginning I thought it was my dream job.. The longer I was employed with this company the worse and worse it got. The staff turn over rate is ridiculously high, the reasoning for this is because they treat their frontline employees like the are disposable, with little respect or attention to their needs.  The corporate office puts a great deal of responsibility, almost unrealistic amount of responsibility on their properties rental office staff, but when the staff tries to make executive decisions (because head office drags their feet on anything if it means they have to spend a dime) the staff is promptly slapped across the wrist.
	Westcorp promotes their core values, and drills it into their employees with monthly staff meetings, however the high up’s of the company hardly follow or live these values, as I said before, their reluctance to spend money is absolutely appalling, even when it comes to potentially emergency situations with their tenants, and whilst they are coming up with every excuse to not spend money, the front line employees are receiving all the heat and taking all the anger from the tenants. 
	Now lets talk about the pay… considering the workload that is placed upon the Community managers and their staff, everyone is grossly underpaid. Not only does Westcorp pinch every penny when it comes to their actual properties, but they do the same with their staff, where is the incentive to put out good work when everyone is getting paid peanuts? There is none.
	Overall- I would not recommend working for this company, this isn’t slander, it is not dragging their name through the mud, and I am not a disgruntled employee. I just believe people should know what they are walking into and it’s the cold hard truth.

Marketing and HR teams are really good, it’s a team of ideal employees you could wish to work with.

Accounting – I’m not sure if the manager is still there (young, Asian), but he was not the greatest at his job. He’s your typical insecure guy, always showing off, walked around making fun of employees working under him (but NEVER if someone above him was watching). You would literally feel sorry for your coworkers, he even made fun of their “job titles” and treated employees accordingly. As an employee, dealing with a fragile ego of his, one felt discouraged to say anything to him, making for a toxic, unhealthy work environment - really felt like a trap. 

The controller is not great at decision making, so relied heavily on his manager for expertise, adding to your worst nightmare.

The employees I worked with - some amazing people, however, they’ve all moved on from this company.

.Quite a few challenges, but this is why I was hired into the position
.Many opportunities, due to this being the first major turnaround for the client with high turnover rate
.Most of the co-workers were in their early stages of development and were mentored pertaining to best practices and how to be successful.
.The hardest part of the job was the climate of the various unions,but with team building sessions and some mentoring, the client had lessons learned, going forward to use for the next planning phase of the next turnaround
.The most important and enjoyable part of the job was the relationship with the owner and superior.

Briefly worked in the Calgary office as “Site Manager”. My position was very simple but was made harder by an inexperienced Reional Manager in condo management. As the new person couldn’t really voice my concern when procedure wasn’t followed accordingly. Not to mention my boss not being able to have a one on one meet with a  tenant  they tried to wrongly evicted and later recanted when they realized it was an error on their part. Leasing team was another issue for petty gossip. Overall poor work environment if your  long term is to work in this field

Terrible place to work, mean and unqualified managers, oncall is insane(one person for over 3000 units in edm). They use terrible cheap contractors and then expect the maintenance staff to go in behind them and redo everything with a smile. They pay slightly more than boardwalk but other than that it is the same or worse in every area.

I enjoyed working with Westcorp a lot. My managers were always kind and fun to be around, I believe I picked up the duties with ease. Nobody ever nagged me to get anything done. I felt a sense of a strong team. I would definitely recommend for those looking to move up in leasing / real estate. I enjoyed the dynamic a lot but left due to getting another offer. Because of their kindness, I wanted to leave this review. 

Over the time I have been there I have seen too many good people leave for no reason other than the manager wanted a change in personnel. This is very poor management because of the loyalty, dedication and years service these people put in to be gone in an instant. Weak managers that feel everyone should be newer than them! Just get out while you can before you get canned. 

If you work for Westcorp you are not safe they will lay you off or fire you with no notice,  this is the worst . There is always a water leaks on the apartments and random fire drill every month. This company only care about business.

I painting three floors all woodwork and walls, while I was there I was working hourly $ 30.00 dollars. Lather  told me to star doing sub contract job an I was so happy to finishing all the floor they gave o me and my crew.

As a former employee the ownership were the best people I have worked for. They value strength they reward hard work they treat you with respect I would still be working for them if they did not sell hotels
