Reporting to the Director, Facilities and Operations, the Custodial & Security Services Manager is the operational leader for the custodial and security teams. This role involves resolving complex administrative and operational issues that may be at times high priority for the university. Given that teams operate 24/7, some schedule flexibility and on-call availability is required.
This position is responsible for managing custodial operations and overseeing the contracted security team. The Custodial and Security Services Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and reviewing custodial work while maintaining site authority over security operations. Security services are provided by a third-party vendor, available 24/7. It is expected that approximately 75% of the role’s focus will be on custodial management and 25% on security oversight.
Responsibilities:

Lead employee recruitment, discipline, retention, and development, ensuring effective delegation of duties and optimal use of human capital.

Manage department resources, set service expectations, and oversee quality control for Custodial and Security Services to ensure responsiveness to campus needs.

Responsible for the scheduling of work for Student Help employees.

Lead crisis response, including direct support of the security team and effective de-escalation when needed.

Lead all training for the custodial and security teams including inductor training for new staff. (e.g., WHMIS, bloodborne pathogens, Level 2 lab cleaning).

Develop programs to improve Custodial Operations, including establishing standards and personnel training programs.

Provide guidance to the Security Team and university stakeholders on security matters.

Communicate to appropriate stakeholders as needed on priority items.

Manage an authorized budget, evaluate fiscal needs, prioritize spending, contribute to budget preparation, and ensure responsible fiscal management.

Oversee inventory management, ordering, invoicing, and equipment repairs.

Assign and allocate cleaning areas effectively.

Participate in the on-call team for facilities and campus emergencies as a first responder.

Promote health, safety, and incident prevention by educating staff on departmental policies, procedures, and safe work practices in compliance with relevant legislation. Foster a culture of safety within the team.

Qualifications:
-
Minimum of four (4) years of experience leading a cleaning and/or security team or managing a contract service provider is considered an asset.

Strong understanding of cleaning methodologies and materials required.
-
Building Service Worker or Supervisor Custodial Technician Certification training is considered an asset.

High school diploma or GED is required.
-
Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License for operating University vehicles with a clean drivers’ abstract is required.
-
First Aid, CPR, AED, and WHMIS certifications are considered assets.

Accredited security education from ASIS, IACLEA, or equivalent experience is preferred.

Satisfactory Criminal Records Check results is required.
