Vancouver Shipyards, based in North Vancouver, has been very busy working on some exciting projects. We continue to make progress on two 174m long Joint Support Ships (JSS) for the Royal Canadian Navy – the largest ships ever built in Canada! We are working towards delivery of an Offshore Oceanographic Science Vessel (OOSV) for the Canadian Coast Guard, and we just started building the first heavy Polar Icebreaker built in Canada for over 50 years.
Following that we have several Multi-Purpose Vessels that are currently designing for construction in years to come. These projects bring long-term job stability on some of the most exciting and significant shipbuilding opportunities in the world.
In joining the mechanical team at Seaspan you will be involved in the install and alignment of critical equipment on the vessels. This will include, but not limited to main engines, generators, propulsion systems, steering systems, cranes, and winches. This equipment is critical to the daily function of the ship and keeping its crew safe.

Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Millwright, Mechanic or Heavy-Duty Mechanic Certificate of Qualification with Interprovincial Red Seal Endorsement; or a Recognized Equivalent Provincial Trades Qualification; or a Recognized Equivalent International Trade Qualification
- Minimum of 30 Months Documented Mechanical Experience
- Shipbuilding experience in a new construction shipyard preferred
- Comprehend and follow written and spoken directions and work in a safe & efficient manner
- Good communication skills both written and verbal in the English language
- Ability to work in a team environment or individually with a positive attitude
- Demonstrated proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and drawings
- Demonstrates proficiency with alignment, rigging, layout, and a variety of hand tooling
- Must be able to work in a construction environment involving confined spaces, working at heights, physical labour, and various weather conditions
- Must be able to be qualified to wear a respirator
- Entitled to work in Canada.

This position may involve defense articles and/or technical data regulated by the U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (“ITAR”) and the U.S. Arms Export Control Act.
