Overview
The Facilitator works effectively, as an integral part of the Job Search and Retention team, developing curriculum and providing group and one-on-one facilitation to Clients on a wide variety of meaningful employment-related topics; specifically as it relates to Competency-based training which, as outlined in the WorkBC Employment Services Program, is designed to support eligible clients in their practical ability to learn and improve upon the knowledge and skills they will need to prepare for, attain and retain employment. This role also includes active and comprehensive involvement in the area of Cohort Programming. Ensuring a strong and ongoing connection with Clients and the full WorkBC Centre team, the Facilitator will ensure that curriculum is delivered consistently, professionally and effectively to in order to meet the needs of the Clients, as well as the desired learning objectives and WorkBC Employment Services program required outcomes
Responsibilities
Curriculum Development
Effectively develop and target meaningful curriculum to meet current and changing Client, labour market and Employer needs; ensuring both accessibility and relevance to all groups, and the consistent attainment of outcomes and objectives as required in the WorkBC Employment Services Program, by:
- Maintaining knowledge of current employability issues and tailoring seminars and workshops to reflect these issues, thus supporting the ability to reach identified WorkBC Employment Services program outcome targets.
- Developing various short-term certificate and Essential Skills courses as required based on the needs of the Client and/or identified Client Inclusion Groups.
- Regularly updating workshop/seminar curriculum and lesson plans to ensure continued relevance amidst changes in labour market and Client population trends.
- Establishing and publishing workshop schedules in a timely and consistent manner; distributing to team members, Clients and Approved Subcontractors, as required and necessary.
- Proactively contributing to the marketing material relating to workshops available within the WorkBC Centre, and as appropriate and applicable as it relates to virtual and outreach sources as well.
- Arranging appropriate and engaging guest speakers and special guests for relevant workshop topics.
- Working closely with organizations that have closed or down-sized, to deliver on-site introductory workshops focused on resumes, cover letters, and other appropriate topics; specifically designed for Employees of the impacted business.
- Ensuring the consistent ongoing engagement of Clients with relevant and practical information, activities, audio-visual materials, appropriate worksheets, exercises and practical discussions, in support of accomplishing desired learning outcomes; with a practical knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the different learning styles of the participants
Facilitation
Working with the Job Search and Sustainment team to support Clients in the facilitation of employment related workshops primarily in the WorkBC Centre, but also through various virtual and outreach sources as may be required, to ensure that delivery and content consistently meets the Client needs and required outcomes and objectives of the WorkBC Employment Services Program, by:
- Facilitating applicable employability workshops to Community agencies, that are open to both Clients and the general public, as part of the AKG Canada Community Engagement Plan
- Facilitating various short-term certificate and Essential Skills courses as required based on the needs of the Client and/or identified Client Inclusion Groups
- Providing Clients, as required and appropriate, with information on community resources or services that will support the optimization of their financial resources upon commencing employment
- Providing ongoing one-on-one and group communications and support regarding job search tools and strategies, and general employability skills, all in support of the attainment of required Job Retention outcomes
- Arranging employer forums with local Employers in collaboration with the Community Engagement Manager, as part of the execution of the AKG Canada Service and Awareness Plan
- Consistently creating and maintaining a healthy and productive learning environment for all audiences
- Ensuring proper set-up and post workshop clean-up of utilized space(s)
- Setting clear and consistent classroom expectations for all participants, including the safety information required in case of an emergency
- Maintaining accurate and timely attendance statistics and completing reporting of information as required
- Consistently working with appropriate WorkBC Centre team members to ensure pertinent observations, interactions and/or concerns regarding Clients are communicated in a consistent and timely manner in support of the Client’s employment needs and objectives; including, but not limited to, participation and workshop outcomes
- Timely and consistent administration of workshop evaluations, recording feedback for future development into Survey Monkey
- Providing ongoing communication with all WorkBC Centre team members regarding available and upcoming workshops to support the successful marketing of the events, and encourage increased attendance; also allowing for timely feedback and suggestions in terms of client needs relating to topics, etc.
Cohort Programming
Developing and facilitating appropriate cohort training as an effective way of addressing barriers and improving required outcomes for Clients, by:
- Working with, and gathering intelligence from local Employers in specific and appropriate industries to determine the preferred technical and soft skills required of their employees
- Continually working to increase current knowledge of the local labour market in order to effectively network and promote WorkBC/AKG Canada services within the wider community
- Incorporating information collected into meaningful programming that meets the needs of both the Client and Employer
- Creating subsequent tailored curriculum and assigning resources accordingly (i.e., space, administration support, etc.) determining the appropriate Client profile
- Establishing appropriate and effective referral processes, through a variety of channels, and creating an outreach strategy aimed at engaging the general public and Clients in the program
- Developing and facilitating regularly scheduled Job Club workshops tailored to specific Client groups and/or customized based on Client need (i.e., Mature Workers, Canada Works for Newcomers, Youth Job Club)
- Developing and facilitating short duration cohort employability training – typically focused on 1 subject - for Clients who are job ready and require a less intensive mode of training
- Participating as required in industry-specific Employability Skills Training programming as required by specified industries in the applicable catchment
- Supporting the development of and providing facilitation in relation to specific Client Inclusion Group Training, that is focused on general information applicable to the group as a whole

Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Post-secondary degree, diploma or certificate in a relevant field (e.g., career or employment development, vocational rehabilitation, social work, psychology, sociology, human services, counselling, education or human resources management).
- Working towards or holding an associated relevant professional certification (i.e., CCDP, RRP, etc.) plus certification to support delivery of various Short – Term Occupational Certificates (i.e., Serving it Right, SuperHost, WHIMIS, First Aid and other related) is preferred.
- Two (2) or more years of related experience in the employment services, counselling or other support services industry.
- Two (2) or more years of facilitation, coaching or instructing experience in an adult educational environment; including the development of curriculum. A relevant combination of education, professional experience and industry training that includes a minimum of three (3) years of experience may be considered.
- Multilingual (English plus French or another language) ability to communicate effectively with Clients, both verbally and in writing is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Capacity to effectively conduct and interpret Client needs assessments and employ exploration tools in accordance with individualized Client needs and abilities.
- Demonstrated experience providing services and support to individuals with complex barriers, including barrier identification and resolution.
- Extensive knowledge of job search and networking strategies.
- Experience in, and the ability to, successfully coach and mentor Clients to gain effective job search tools and strategies.
- Demonstrated experience in the delivery of Competency-based training, including, but not necessarily limited to: ‘Basic Life Skills’, ‘Essential Work Skills’ and Short-term Occupational training programs.
- Ability to build and maintain a network of partnerships with local employment and community agencies, employers, social service & referral programs, and other relevant stakeholders.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proven ability to successfully work with and support individuals from a broad range of cultural backgrounds based on a sensitivity to and understanding of the unique challenges they may face.
- Strong administrative skills and computer proficiency with specific emphasis on MS Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook) and customized databases.
