Full job description

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Carpenter and Equipment Operator to join our growing construction team. You will primarily work on interior finishing such as framing and drywall, or exterior work including excavation and site preparation. We are flexible and can place you based on your strengths and our current project needs. If you are hardworking, reliable, and bring strong construction experience, we want to hear from you.

Responsibilities:

Clean, prepare, and maintain construction sites before, during, and after work to ensure a safe and organized working environment
Load, unload, and properly store building materials, tools, and equipment on site
Perform structural framing for walls, floors, ceilings, and roofs according to project blueprints and specifications
Install, finish, and tape drywall, including mudding and sanding to a smooth, paint-ready surface
Apply paint and coatings to interior and exterior surfaces using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment
Install interior and exterior doors, windows, and hardware with proper alignment and sealing
Operate heavy equipment including excavators, backhoes, skid steers, and compactors for digging, grading, and site preparation
Perform excavation, trenching, backfilling, and compaction work as required
Carry out site pipe filling, drainage work, and underground utility assistance
Pour, finish, and repair concrete surfaces including footings, slabs, and foundations
Assist with demolition work including removal of walls, structures, and materials safely and efficiently
Build, erect, move, and dismantle scaffolding, temporary structures, and shoring systems
Assist skilled trades including carpenters, plumbers, electricians, and HVAC technicians as needed
Maintain working knowledge of HVAC systems and basic mechanical installations
Operate a wide range of hand and power tools including saws, drills, nail guns, and grinders safely and efficiently
Perform general preventative maintenance on tools, equipment, and machinery
Follow all workplace health and safety protocols, WHMIS regulations, and PPE requirements at all times
Implement and maintain traffic control procedures on active job sites
Conduct site inspections and identify potential hazards or safety concerns
Submit detailed weekly progress reports via email to project supervisors
Communicate effectively and professionally with team members, subcontractors, and site supervisors
Support project managers in ensuring all project milestones and timelines are met
Adapt to working on both interior and exterior phases of construction projects as needed
Work in various weather conditions and physically demanding environments

Requirements:

Must speak, read, and write English fluently
Minimum 4 years of hands-on experience in construction or a related trade — this is a strict requirement
Experience in both interior finishing and exterior site work is strongly preferred
Proven ability to operate heavy machinery and equipment
Demonstrated knowledge of framing, drywall, mudding, painting, and finishing work
Demonstrated experience with excavation, grading, and site preparation
Familiarity with construction drawings, blueprints, and specifications
Basic computer skills including email and weekly reporting
Strong understanding of workplace safety standards and WHMIS regulations
Valid driver's license is required
Ability to lift heavy materials and work in physically demanding indoor and outdoor conditions
Strong work ethic, punctuality, and ability to work both independently and as part of a team
References from previous construction employers are required

Required Experience:

Minimum 4 years of hands-on experience in the construction industry
Proven experience in structural framing including walls, floors, ceilings, and roof systems
At least 4 years of experience installing, finishing, and taping drywall including mudding and sanding
Demonstrated experience with interior painting, surface preparation, and finish coatings
Experience installing doors, windows, and all associated hardware and weatherproofing
Hands-on experience operating heavy equipment such as excavators, backhoes, skid steers, and compactors
Proven experience performing excavation, trenching, backfilling, and grading work
Experience with concrete work including pouring, finishing, and repairing footings, slabs, and foundations
Experience assisting licensed tradespeople in plumbing, electrical, and HVAC installations
Demonstrated experience with demolition, debris removal, and site cleanup
Experience building, dismantling, and working safely on scaffolding and temporary structures
Experience implementing traffic control measures on active construction and road sites
Experience with site pipe filling, drainage systems, and underground utility work
Proven experience reading and interpreting construction drawings and blueprints
Experience submitting written progress reports and communicating through email
Experience working on both residential and commercial construction projects is a strong asset

Working at Heights certification
WHMIS certification
Traffic Control Person (TCP) certification
First Aid & CPR certification
Forklift or heavy equipment operator license
Fall protection training
Red Seal trade certification is a strong asset
