This is a unique opportunity for an experienced psychiatric nursing professional to shape the next generation of mental health practitioners while helping to address critical healthcare workforce needs across rural, northern and Indigenous communities in Saskatchewan.
Role Summary:
Reporting to the Vice-President (Academic), the Psychiatric Nursing Instructor/Program Lead will play a key role in mentoring instructors, coordinating program delivery, supporting student success and ensuring academic excellence across the Psychiatric Nursing Program. This position is responsible for the delivery of the psychiatric nursing education program curriculum and content in alignment with the established learning objectives and outcomes, while operationalizing the North West College Indigenization charter. The position is also responsible for instructing within a designated teaching assignment, promoting the academic success and personal growth of students. As the Lead Instructor, the position mentors and supports other psychiatric nursing instructors, serving to also address student performance concerns (as appropriate).

Key Responsibilities:
- Instruction & Curriculum Delivery: Deliver classroom, lab, and clinical instruction in accordance with Saskatchewan Polytechnic curriculum requirements, learning outcomes, and adult education principles.
- Student Success & Support: Foster an inclusive learning environment while monitoring student progress, providing feedback, addressing learning challenges, and supporting academic success.
- Assessment & Evaluation: Implement examinations, assessments, and evaluation tools while maintaining accurate student records, attendance, and performance documentation.
- Program Leadership & Coordination: Lead program scheduling, teaching assignments, instructor orientation, and resource planning in collaboration with College leadership.
- Instructor Mentorship & Support: Serve as the primary resource for psychiatric nursing instructors, providing guidance on curriculum delivery, student concerns, assessment practices, and teaching methodologies.
- Quality & Program Excellence: Monitor program quality and compliance with Saskatchewan Polytechnic standards, adult education principles, and College policies and procedures.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with Student Services, Counsellors, College leadership, and healthcare partners to support student success, clinical placements, and overall program effectiveness.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Education & Registration: Undergraduate degree in Nursing and approval from Saskatchewan Polytechnic to teach in the program. Preference will be given to candidates registered or eligible for registration with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRPNS) or the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS). A relevant master’s degree, or willingness to pursue one, is preferred.
- Clinical & Teaching Experience: Minimum two years of recent and relevant psychiatric nursing practice and/or instructional experience.
- Adult Education Expertise: Knowledge of adult learning principles, instructional methodologies, curriculum delivery, student assessment, and evaluation practices.
- Leadership & Mentorship: Demonstrated ability to supervise, mentor, and support instructors while fostering collaboration and accountability.
- Student-Centred Approach: Ability to identify learning challenges, adapt teaching methods, manage classroom dynamics, and support student success in diverse learning environments.
- Technical & Organizational Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Zoom, Outlook, learning management systems, and other educational technologies, with strong planning, organizational, and record-keeping abilities.
- Additional Requirements: Valid Saskatchewan driver’s license, willingness to travel as required, and the ability to obtain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Search.
Compensation:
- Competitive Salary: Total compensation (base plus a market stipend of $15,000) ranging from $98,286.72 – $140,333.99, commensurate with education and experience
