Material Handler Job Description
*Experience: REQUIRED 3+ years of Manufacturing Material Handler experience.*
Oskam Welding & Machine Ltd. is seeking a reliable and motivated Material Handler to support our structural steel, miscellaneous metals, and custom fabrication operations. This hands-on position is responsible for material handling, shipping and receiving, inventory control, equipment operation, ERP system transactions, and general shop support.
The successful candidate will work closely with production staff to ensure materials, equipment, and inventory are properly managed while maintaining a safe, efficient, and organized work environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Load, unload, move, and organize materials throughout the shop and yard.
- Receive, inspect, and verify incoming materials and shipments.
- Prepare and package outgoing shipments.
- Operate forklifts, telehandlers, overhead cranes, and other material handling equipment.
- Assist with material preparation, including saw operation and cutting of steel and other materials.
- Read and interpret shop drawings, material lists, and work orders.
- Accurately measure materials using tape measures and other measuring devices.
- Maintain accurate inventory levels and material locations.
- Process material receipts, transfers, inventory movements, and work order transactions within the company's ERP system.
- Assist with inventory counts and cycle counts.
- Support fabrication and welding operations as required.
- Perform general labour duties and maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Assist with basic mechanical tasks and equipment maintenance.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
- Work collaboratively with production, purchasing, project management, and shipping personnel.
Skills and Abilities
- Valid Ontario Class G Driver's Licence with a clean driving record.
- Comfortable operating vehicles and towing trailers.
- Experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, construction, or industrial environment is preferred.
- Experience with shipping and receiving processes.
- Knowledge of hand tools and basic mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to accurately read a tape measure.
- Ability to read and interpret shop drawings and manufacturing documentation.
- Basic computer skills and experience using ERP, inventory, or manufacturing software.
- Experience with JobBOSS² or similar manufacturing ERP software is considered an asset.
- Welding or fabrication experience is considered an asset.
- Forklift, telehandler, and overhead crane certifications are considered an asset; training will be provided.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials on a regular basis.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and perform physical labour throughout the workday.
- Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to safely handle steel, fabrication materials, and shop equipment.
Language Ability
Communicates effectively in English (verbal and written).

Indoor and Outdoor.

Full-time, permanent, Monday to Friday, day shift.
Hours
44 hours per week. Occasional overtime.
