Job Overview
Frontier Law Group LLP is seeking an Associate Lawyer who is driven, industrious, and motivated to build something of their own.
This is not a position for someone looking to be managed at every step or sheltered inside a large institutional firm. This role is for a lawyer who wants real responsibility, real autonomy, real opportunity, and the support of lawyers who take mentorship and professional development seriously.
We are a growing Alberta law firm serving primarily rural individuals, families, and businesses. Our work is practical, hands-on, and meaningful. Our lawyers run their own files, appear in court, advise clients directly, and develop their own practices within the firm’s structure. At the same time, we operate as a true team. We collaborate regularly, assist one another when challenges arise, and ensure that no lawyer is left to navigate difficult matters without guidance or support.
We are proud to serve close-knit communities where trust, reputation, and integrity matter. Our clients rely on us to be practical, dependable, and forthright. We take that responsibility seriously.
You will not be competing internally for permission to advance. You will not spend years waiting for incremental responsibility. If you are capable, you will be trusted. If you are effective, you will be rewarded accordingly.
This role offers the opportunity to develop into a senior lawyer with a strong independent practice and a clear path toward long-term advancement.
Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and revise legal documents, including contracts, pleadings, affidavits, memoranda, wills, and correspondence with clarity and precision.
- Appear before the Alberta Court of Justice, Court of King’s Bench, and administrative tribunals.
- Provide sound, practical legal advice to clients across a range of matters, including litigation, family law, wills & estates, real estate, corporate and societies law and general legal issues.
- Negotiate on behalf of clients to achieve favorable and just outcomes while maintaining professionalism and credibility.
- Manage client files independently, including client communication, strategy development, and procedural conduct.
- Collaborate with other lawyers within the firm to develop strategic solutions for complex legal matters and ensure the highest quality of client service.
- Stay current on legal developments relevant to your areas of practice.
- Take ownership of your work, your files, and your professional development.
- Contribute to the continued growth, strength, and reputation of the firm.
- Build your own client base over time, with full support and infrastructure from the firm.
Who This Position Is For
This role is best suited for a lawyer who:
- Is licensed and in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta.
- Is self-motivated, disciplined, and capable of working independently, while contributing positively to a collaborative team environment.
- Is confident yet humble, capable of advocating firmly and effectively for clients while recognizing the value of diplomacy, professionalism, and achieving fair and practical outcomes.
- Takes pride in producing high-quality legal work.
- Is comfortable accepting responsibility and making decisions.
- Wants the opportunity to build a real practice, not simply perform delegated tasks.
- Values autonomy, accountability, and professional growth.
- Is motivated by performance-based rewards and long-term opportunity.
- Has strong litigation, advocacy, and writing skills (experience is an asset but not required for the right candidate).
- Is capable of managing multiple matters effectively and meeting professional deadlines.
- Demonstrates strong ethical standards, sound judgment, and professional integrity.
- Junior and early-career lawyers with the right mindset are strongly encouraged to apply.
What We Offer
- Competitive base compensation, commensurate with experience, ability, and performance.
- Significant performance-based incentives and fee-sharing opportunities.
- Direct file carriage and meaningful responsibility from the outset.
- Direct access to experienced lawyers for mentorship, strategy discussion, and professional development in a collaborative, non-hierarchical environment.
- A flexible remote work environment built on trust and accountability.
- Full administrative and operational support to allow you to focus on practicing law and developing your practice.
- The opportunity to build a strong, independent practice within a supportive firm structure.
- A clear path toward long-term advancement for lawyers who demonstrate capability, initiative, and leadership.
This is an opportunity to accelerate your development as a lawyer and build a practice on your own terms, while working alongside lawyers who value professionalism, independence, and mutual support.
