Head Chef / Kitchen Manager

Location: Vancouver, BC
Compensation: Starting at $60,000 per year, depending on experience
Full-time | Approximately 40 hours per week

We are an established and growing restaurant in Vancouver looking for an experienced, hands-on Head Chef / Kitchen Manager to lead our kitchen team and oversee daily kitchen operations.

We are looking for someone who is not only a strong cook, but also an effective leader who can motivate a team, maintain high standards, and ensure that the kitchen operates efficiently and consistently.

Responsibilities

Lead, manage, train, and support the kitchen team
Ensure consistent food quality, presentation, and portion control
Work hands-on in the kitchen and lead by example during service
Oversee and participate in grilling and other key cooking stations
Create and manage staff schedules
Assist with hiring, training, performance management, and team development
Manage kitchen inventory and ensure appropriate stock levels
Monitor food costs, waste, and portion control
Ensure the kitchen is clean, organized, and compliant with food safety standards
Maintain efficient kitchen operations during busy services
Work closely with restaurant management to maintain high operational standards
Help develop systems, procedures, and checklists to improve consistency and efficiency

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

Previous experience as a Head Chef, Kitchen Manager, Sous Chef, or senior kitchen leader
Strong leadership and team management experience
Experience working in a fast-paced, high-volume restaurant environment
Strong grilling experience and confidence working on a grill station
Experience managing inventory and controlling food costs
Experience creating and managing staff schedules
Strong organizational and communication skills
A hands-on management style and willingness to work alongside the team
High standards for cleanliness, food quality, consistency, and presentation
The ability to remain calm, organized, and efficient during busy services

Compensation

The position is expected to be approximately 40 hours per week.

Compensation starts at approximately $60,000 per year, with flexibility to discuss the overall compensation package based on the candidate's experience, qualifications, and fit for the role.

We are looking for the right long-term person to take ownership of the kitchen and become an important leader within our restaurant.
