JOB SUMMARY
The Carpenter is responsible for completing all work with quality within set time guidelines as directed by the Project Manager. Carpentry work includes not only millwork, but also demolition, materials handling, insulating, drywall, floor and dust protection, framing, knowledge of electrical and HVAC systems and basic plumbing.
The Carpenter is responsible for ensuring that job sites are maintained in a safe and orderly condition and that all Master Edge Homes and/or industry-recognized safety standards are followed. This person refers all matters for dispute regarding the project to the Project Manager.
Appropriate construction attire is expected. Construction footwear (with the green CSA patch) is always required.
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES
Produce project as directed by the Project Manager, per Master Edge Homes' standard level of quality and procedure.
Perform all aspects of carpentry labour, including demolition, materials handling, drywall, dust and floor protection, framing, insulating and vapour barrier, basic trim Conduct him/herself safely and wears the appropriate safety clothing Work in a team environment
Make sure all necessary tools and materials are used as designed and appropriate for the job
Maintain a safe, clean working environment
Protect the security of the job site
Make sure all necessary tools and materials are on your projects
Have working knowledge of contractors and drawings for all projects you are assigned
SPECIFIC DUTIES
1. Your performance is extremely important to the success of our company. You are our representative to both the client and the community at large. We get most of our work because of our reputation, and you are a very important part of that reputation. Both the quality of your work and the appearance of the job site reflect strongly on you and our company. You are responsible for requesting additional resources as required. Notify the Project Manager as soon as possible of any delays or conditions that will affect the schedule to seek approval for your proposed solution. Coordination of all the elements that make up a typical job requires adherence to a tight schedule. You are our link to the job site, and we need to know whether you need any help.
2. You are responsible for performing all carpentry labour on the job, as directed by the Project Manager, including:
- Measuring, verifying trueness of walls, floor and roof assemblies, cutting/shaping materials to specified measurements, assembling and fastening materials.
- Demolition
- Drywall
- Excavation
- Insulation and vapour barrier
- Floor and dust protections
- Millwork
- Hanging doors
- Installing baseboards, casings and crown mouldings, jamb extensions, siding, etc
- Job-specific success (as outlined in Job Description)
3. When other carpenters or helpers are on the job, you are responsible for working cooperatively with them. We are a team, and operating in a supportive manner is very important. Direct any matters of concern or dispute to the Project Manager for assistance. You will also be performing material takeoffs and quality checks.
4. You are responsible for being aware of the daily activities to take place at the work site, including your own work and that of our partners and other team members. It is your responsibility to be sure that all subcontractors adhere to all the company's policies concerning safety, cleanliness, alcohol use, and customer satisfaction. Report any failure to comply with standards to the Project Manager immediately.
5. As delegated by the Project Manager, you will be requested to document the day's activities on site as a Job Log in the project management system. In this instance, your notes should describe the major milestones reached, any visitors, including date and time and any significant occurrences.
6. In the absence of the Project Manager, you are responsible for accurately checking all materials delivered to your job for quality and measurement, as well as damage. Delivery truck drivers are to wait for your inspection, as your signature approves the condition and quantity of the order. Any discrepancy is to be noted on the delivery ticket and reported to the Project Manager. You must check such things as door swings, window sizes, cabinet sizes and types, lumber type and grade, etc., before you sign the delivery ticket.
7. You must do your part to maintain a clean work site. This is important for many reasons, among them safety and efficiency. A sloppy site reflects badly on your work and our company. Dust protection of the client's property is one of your most important jobs. Be sure to control any mud on your site. All job sites are to be broom-cleaned daily. Debris is to be properly stored and hauled away promptly.
8. You are responsible for the protection of the client's property. Do not use anything, including tools, equipment, or cleaning supplies that belong to the client. Be sure you lock and secure the job site before you leave for the day. You must secure all ladders and equipment on site. All materials are to be stored in a safe place.
9. You are responsible to secure the customer's property properly as you arrive and leave the site. This includes being accountable for ensuring the site is properly cleaned and locked, and that trade partners have completed their work for the day if you are the last team member to leave the site.
10. Job safety for both the client and our workers is everyone's responsibility. Be sure that job conditions encourage safety. Monitor both company and individual equipment for proper safety features, safe electrical cords, etc. and inform the Project Manager of any unsafe conditions. Proper safety equipment must be used when appropriate.
11. You are responsible for being aware of the location of first aid resources, following emergency protocols, and immediately reporting accidents to the Project Manager.
12. We always want to accoodate our client and their wishes, but if they want any extra work or make any changes, please refer them to the Project Manager or to the Project Coordinator. Don't agree to anything without getting approval, and don't ever do work without a change order from the client.

Positive feedback from clients concerning the overall quality of communication, interaction and workmanship on their projects as measured through customer survey
