Position Summary
The Project Manager owns the successful execution of industrial projects across Eastern Canada from quoting and contract award through to final handover and close-out. You will be the single point of accountability for safety, schedule, budget, quality, and client satisfaction on multiple concurrent projects involving racking systems, automation, conveyors, mezzanines, construction, and facility relocations. This is a hands-on role for a delivery-focused leader who conducts site walkthroughs, supports quoting and estimating, manages local trades and operations teams in the Nova Scotia market, is comfortable in the field, fluent with subcontractors and trades, and disciplined about margins and documentation.
We're open to candidates with either a project management or an engineering background strong project engineers looking to own delivery end-to-end are encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
Quoting & Estimating
- Assist in quoting and estimating projects: scope take-offs, pricing labour and materials, and preparing client-facing proposals.
- Solicit and review subcontractor and supplier quotes to build accurate, competitive project costing.
- Support the sales and estimating teams to ensure quotes reflect realistic schedules, scope, and margin targets.
Project Execution & Delivery
- Lead end-to-end delivery of industrial projects, coordinating internal crews, subcontractors, suppliers, and trades.
- Conduct on-site walkthroughs to verify progress, quality, safety, and alignment with scope and drawings.
- Manage local trades and operations teams in the Nova Scotia market, providing on-the-ground leadership and coordination.
- Develop, maintain, and drive detailed project schedules, identifying the critical path and mitigating delays proactively.
- Own the project budget: track costs, manage change orders, protect gross margin, and forecast to completion.
Engineering & Technical Support
- Review and interpret engineering drawings, layouts, and technical specifications for racking, automation, and structural elements.
- Coordinate with internal and external engineers (including P.Eng. sign-off where required) to ensure designs are constructible and code-compliant.
- Provide technical problem-solving in the field, resolving design or installation issues as they arise.
Safety & Compliance
- Champion a zero-incident safety culture; ensure compliance with provincial OH&S regulations, site-specific requirements, and MTLI standards.
- Review and enforce safe work practices, JHAs/JSAs, and required permits for all field activities.
Client & Stakeholder Management
- Serve as the primary client contact throughout delivery; manage expectations and communicate progress, risks, and changes clearly.
- Lead the Sales-to-PM handover and ensure scope, commercial terms, and deliverables are fully understood and executed.
- Resolve issues quickly and professionally, escalating to leadership when appropriate.
Procurement & Subcontractor Management
- Source, qualify, and manage subcontractors and suppliers; review quotes and negotiate scope, pricing, and terms.
- Coordinate material logistics, deliveries, and on-site staging to keep crews productive.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate project records: contracts, RFIs, change orders, daily reports, and close-out packages.
- Provide regular status reporting on schedule, budget, risks, and milestones to operations leadership.
Qualifications & Experience
Required
- 5+ years of experience in industrial construction, material handling, racking/automation, millwright/installation, or a related field — in a project management or project engineering capacity.
- PMP (Project Management Professional) certification and/or an engineering degree (P.Eng. or EIT an asset).
- Proven track record managing multiple concurrent projects on time and on budget.
- Experience managing field trades and operations teams on active job sites.
- Experience quoting and estimating projects, including scope take-offs and proposal preparation.
- Strong understanding of industrial site operations, trades coordination, and field execution.
- Solid commercial acumen: budgets, change orders, margin management, and subcontractor negotiation.
- Proficiency with project scheduling and MS Office (Excel, Project, or equivalent).
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel throughout the Nova Scotia market and wider Eastern Canada.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to lead crews and manage clients with confidence.
Preferred
- Local knowledge of the Nova Scotia / Atlantic Canada industrial market and subcontractor base.
- Experience with racking, conveyors, mezzanines, automation systems, or facility relocations/decommissioning.
- P.Eng. designation or Gold Seal Certification (GSC).
- Proficiency with AutoCAD or similar design software.
- Familiarity with reading and interpreting construction and installation drawings.
Pay: $70,000.00-$120,000.00 per year
