Safety Trainer – Construction & Industrial Equipment
Part-Time / Contract | Greater Toronto Area
Summary
FSN Safety Training is looking for experienced construction and industrial equipment operators to deliver safety training programs on a part-time, contract basis throughout the Greater Toronto Area, with occasional travel outside the immediate GTA.
This role may be a great fit for retired or semi-retired equipment operators, supervisors, safety professionals, or trainers who want flexible part-time work and the opportunity to earn extra income without committing to a full-time schedule.
Training assignments are offered on an as-needed basis. Some periods of the year are busier than others, and the amount of work available can vary depending on customer demand, location, availability, and the trainer’s areas of experience.
We are especially interested in candidates based in the eastern Greater Toronto Area, but we will consider qualified candidates from other areas of the GTHA.
The ideal candidate has hands-on equipment experience, communicates well with adult learners, takes safety seriously, and is willing to learn new skills and expand into additional training programs over time.
Responsibilities
As a contract Safety Trainer, you may be responsible for:
- Delivering equipment operator safety training at customer locations
- Presenting classroom theory in a clear, professional, and engaging manner
- Conducting practical equipment evaluations where required
- Following FSN course materials, procedures, and documentation requirements
- Completing attendance sheets, evaluation forms, and related training records accurately
- Setting up and using laptops, projectors, customer TVs, PowerPoint presentations, and related training materials
- Representing FSN professionally while working with customers and trainees
- Providing feedback to FSN on training materials, customer needs, and program improvements
- Travelling to various customer sites throughout the GTA and surrounding areas
Required Qualifications
Candidates should have:
- Practical experience operating at least one of the following: forklift, telehandler, aerial work platform, skid steer, mini-excavator, or similar construction/industrial equipment
- Current or recent equipment certification preferred
- Minimum 2 years of relevant equipment operating experience
- Valid Class G driver’s licence
- Access to a reliable vehicle
- Working at Heights certification, or willingness to obtain/maintain required certifications
- Strong English communication skills and comfort delivering training in English
- Knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and related regulations
- Ability to work independently and professionally at customer sites
- Flexibility to work part-time on an as-needed basis
- Willingness to travel to various customer locations, with preference for candidates based in the eastern GTA
- Basic computer skills, including comfort using a laptop, connecting to projectors or customer TVs, presenting PowerPoint slides, entering basic information in Excel, and accessing files through cloud-based platforms such as Dropbox, Google Drive, or similar platforms
Advanced technical skills are not required, but candidates should be comfortable enough with computers to learn FSN’s systems and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
The following are considered assets:
- Previous adult education, safety training, coaching, or instructional experience
- Public speaking or classroom presentation experience
- Experience developing or improving safety training programs
- Experience delivering live virtual training using web-based platforms
- Additional health and safety training or related experience
- Ability to speak, read, or write in additional languages

Compensation
This is a contract position paid on a flat-rate per training session, plus travel expense recovery where applicable.
The number of assignments offered may vary throughout the year based on customer demand, trainer availability, location, and program qualifications.

Work Location
