Overview:

MilAero Electronics Atlantic Inc. (MilAero), now in its 25th year of operation in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, is an Indigenous, female-owned build-to-print manufacturer of cable/wire harnesses, electromechanical enclosures and power distribution units for Aerospace and Defense customers. We have a solid track record of delivering best-value, high-quality harnesses, on time.

For the past 10 years MilAero has been growing at a 18.4% compound annual growth rate. To maintain this growth level, we are investing significantly in our future. With the commitment of increased defense spending by our federal government, and new contracts with customers, we are currently investing in the expansion of our facilities, new equipment, software/systems and people.

As part of our growth, we are currently seeking a Security and Compliance Lead

JOB DESCRIPTION: Security and Compliance Lead

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

Reports to the VP General Manager

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

The Security and Compliance Lead is responsible for managing company security and compliance programs, including access control, personnel security clearances, controlled goods, sensitive information, facility security, cybersecurity-related compliance, trade compliance, recordkeeping, audits, and employee security training. This role ensures that company security practices, records, and procedures remain accurate, current, audit-ready, and compliant with applicable government, customer, and regulatory requirements.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Security Program Administration

Lead and administer company security and compliance functions, including personnel, facility, physical, information, and digital security programs.
Develop, maintain, and enforce security policies, procedures, plans, and related compliance documentation.
Maintain security files, clearance trackers, controlled records, training records, access records, and audit evidence.
Administer security software, generate compliance reports, and support continuous improvement of security systems and processes.
Provide guidance to employees and management on company security requirements and regulatory obligations.

2. Personnel Clearances, Access Control & Facility Security:

Manage employee security clearance applications, renewals, upgrades, terminations, and related documentation.
Conduct or coordinate employee security briefings at hire, clearance upgrade, annual training, and termination stages.
Issue and manage employee security badges, access levels, visitor badges, visitor logs, and controlled access zones.
Manage visitor access, photo screening, Requests for Visit, escorts, and on-site/off-site access requirements.
Monitor and coordinate facility security controls, including cameras, restricted keyways, electronic access systems, and after-hours security arrangements.

3. Government & Regulatory Compliance:

Liaise with government security agencies, customers, auditors, and regulatory bodies to maintain required registrations, clearances, and compliance obligations.
Support compliance with the Contract Security Program, Canadian Controlled Goods Program, NATO security requirements, ITAR/EAR, CMMC, Cyber Secure Canada (CPCSC), and other applicable customer or regulatory requirements.
Maintain facility and document safeguarding registrations, renewals, updates, and supporting evidence.
Review contract security clauses and coordinate required actions with internal teams.
Support internal audits, external audits, certification audits, security assessments, corrective actions, and audit follow-up activities.

4. Controlled Goods, Trade & Information Security:

Manage controlled goods, sensitive document handling, controlled storage locations, and critical records control.
Support import/export compliance activities, including documentation, permits, licenses, agreements, and recordkeeping.
Assist with classification of goods, technology, software, technical data, and defense services under applicable Canadian, U.S., and international regulations.
Coordinate sensitive document transfers, including domestic and international transfers, in accordance with applicable requirements.
Provide regulatory interpretation and guidance related to export controls, controlled goods, licensing, documentation, and record retention.

5. Training, Reporting & Process Improvement

Deliver or coordinate annual security training and role-specific security briefings for employees.
Maintain organized records to support customer reviews, government inspections, internal audits, and external audits.
Identify opportunities to improve security, access control, controlled goods, trade compliance, documentation, and reporting processes.
Support the implementation and improvement of security tools, tracking systems, workflows, and internal controls.
Ensure compliance records, security plans, training files, and supporting documents remain current and audit ready.

KEY RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: Executive Team, Quality, HR, IT/Cybersecurity, Operations, Production, Engineering, Program/Project Teams, Shipping/Receiving, Purchasing, and employees requiring security or compliance support.
External: Government security agencies, PSPC/Contract Security Program, Controlled Goods Program, NATO/customer security representatives, auditors, certification bodies, customs brokers, freight forwarders, logistics providers, and third-party security service providers.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

Post-secondary education in business, security, compliance, administration, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in security program administration, government contracting compliance, controlled goods, trade compliance, or a related field.
Experience in aerospace, defence, marine, manufacturing, or another regulated industry is considered an asset.
Working knowledge of PSPC, Contract Security Program, Controlled Goods Program, ITAR/EAR, NATO, CMMC, Cyber Secure Canada, or similar security and compliance programs.
Ability to obtain and maintain required government security clearances.
Strong organizational, recordkeeping, analytical, and communication skills.
Eligibility to act as a Designated Official under the Canadian Controlled Goods Program is required
High attention to detail, sound judgment, discretion, and ability to work with confidential and controlled information.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and security or compliance tracking systems.

English Language Requirement: This position requires English communication skills equivalent to Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) Level 7 or higher. Applicants may be asked to demonstrate this through valid results from an IRCC-approved English language test, such as IELTS General Training, CELPIP-General, or PTE Core. This requirement is based on the communication duties of the position.
