Receptionist – Full-Time

Cedar Strong Prevention & Intervention Society
Location: Hope, BC
Job Type: Full-time, unionized position
Number of Positions: 3
Wage: $22.94 per hour — Wage Grid 5
Hours: 40 hours per week
Reports to: Housing Manager
Anticipated Start Date: To be determined based on facility opening and operational readiness

About Cedar Strong

Cedar Strong Prevention & Intervention Society provides supportive, client-centred services to individuals and families in Hope and the surrounding communities.

We are seeking welcoming, organized, and dependable Receptionists to join the team at our new shelter and supportive housing facility.

The Receptionist provides front-line administrative and customer-service support while helping maintain a safe, respectful, trauma-informed, and culturally safe environment. As a key point of contact, the Receptionist welcomes residents and visitors, responds to inquiries, supports communication, monitors the reception and entry areas, and assists with the daily administrative needs of the facility.

The successful candidate will be able to work independently, maintain confidentiality, manage competing priorities, and communicate respectfully with residents, visitors, employees, service providers, and community partners.

Key Responsibilities

Provide a welcoming, respectful, and professional presence at the reception desk.
Greet residents, visitors, service providers, and other members of the public.
Respond to in-person, telephone, and email inquiries and direct requests to the appropriate employee or service.
Assist residents with basic forms, information, and access to staff or community resources.
Answer, screen, and redirect telephone calls.
Monitor the lobby, reception area, entrances, and other designated common areas.
Follow established procedures for resident and visitor check-in and sign-in.
Support the application of facility expectations, including visitor, smoking, entry, and quiet-hour requirements.
Report emergencies, safety concerns, unauthorized visitors, and other significant issues to the Housing Manager or designated employee.
Maintain communication logs, filing systems, visitor records, and other administrative documentation.
Relay messages accurately between residents, employees, external service providers, and community partners.
Receive, sort, and distribute mail and deliveries.
Support staff with photocopying, filing, document preparation, and other administrative duties.
Prepare or photocopy intake packages and other program materials.
Update resource lists, directories, notices, and other facility information.
Track office supplies and advise the appropriate supervisor when supplies need to be reordered.
Maintain a clean, organized, and professional reception area.
Protect confidential resident, employee, and organizational information.
Complete special projects and other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Completion of Grade 12.
At least six months of recent reception, customer-service, or administrative experience.
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
Knowledge of trauma-informed practice is considered an asset.
Experience working in a shelter, supportive housing, social-service, health-care, or community-service environment is considered an asset.

Ability to follow policies, procedures, and established reporting requirements.
Physical ability to perform the duties of the position, including occasional lifting of items weighing up to approximately 20 pounds.

Working Conditions

This position works in a shelter and supportive housing environment and has regular contact with residents, visitors, employees, service providers, and members of the public.

The Receptionist may interact with individuals experiencing homelessness, poverty, substance use, mental-health concerns, and other complex circumstances. The role requires emotional patience, cultural awareness, sound judgment, and the ability to treat all individuals with dignity and respect.

The position requires ongoing attention to the safety and security of residents, visitors, and employees. Receptionists may need to respond to unexpected situations, report urgent concerns, and manage several competing requests while maintaining a calm and professional front-desk environment.

Applicants must be available to work a varied schedule, which may include weekdays, evenings, and weekends.

Additional Information

This position is connected to a new facility that remains under development. The anticipated start date and work arrangements may be adjusted based on construction completion, facility readiness, program implementation, onboarding requirements, staffing needs, and operational requirements.

Any adjustments will be made in accordance with the applicable collective agreement, employment standards legislation, and Cedar Strong policies.
