Job Description
The successful candidate will initially be based on a project site for the first several years. During this period, the role will involve implementing and coordinating the mechanical, electrical and technical system scopes on the assigned project, while supporting corporate objectives outlined in this position description and assisting, as required, with additional projects as directed by the Corporate Building Systems Manager. This role reports directly to the Corporate Building Systems Manager.
The Mechanical & Electrical Coordinator will be trained in the corporate Building Systems process and is responsible for its implementation and day-to-day execution on assigned projects. The role includes supporting quality assurance and control, startup and commissioning activities, and project closeout for complex, multi-disciplinary commercial construction projects. This position requires effective communication with project teams, consultants, subcontractors, and site supervision, while maintaining a strong understanding of project specifications and drawings.
The Mechanical & Electrical Coordinator supports trade coordination within project teams, monitors the quality of technical system installations, and assists in the commissioning of mechanical, electrical, and technical systems in the field. The role also includes applying the corporate Building Systems process consistently across assigned projects.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Corporate Building Systems team.

Review building systems trades’ progress for general compliance with drawings, specifications, quality, and schedule; identify and escalate risks and issues to the project team.

Process and track building systems submittals, coordination documents, and reports.

Coordinate drawing and model coordination activities with project teams and trades.

Support project schedule development and implementation related to building systems, including tracking sequencing and progress.

Review building systems scope within contracts and subcontracts and identify potential issues for escalation.

Assist in preparing scopes of work for building systems trades.

Review contract documents related to building systems and flag impacts to budget, scope, and schedule.

Prepare, submit, and track RFIs related to building systems scopes.

Support project teams, consultants, and trade contractors during design-build execution.

Provide technical support on building systems (e.g., code requirements, installation standards) within defined limits.

Support implementation of sustainable design requirements as they relate to building systems.

Monitor building systems trade activities and support enforcement of quality management programs.

Assist in developing and maintaining the commissioning plan.

Coordinate and support execution of the building systems commissioning process.

Track and support building systems closeout activities, including documentation and deficiency resolution.

Act as a liaison between project team members, consultants, and trade contractors to support coordination and issue resolution.

Assist with project proposals as required.

Attend project meetings related to building systems.

Adhere to and support internal safety programs.

Maintain awareness of industry practices and emerging building systems methods.

Collaborate with Building Systems Managers and other Coordinators to resolve project issues and share knowledge.

Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to support issue resolution.

Provide input to project teams on potential improvements to building systems coordination and delivery.

Support estimating and project teams with basic input on building systems scope and cost considerations.

Develop and maintain effective working relationships with project stakeholders.

Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience
-
Two-year college diploma, trade school certification, or university degree in a related discipline (e.g., mechanical, electrical engineering) and 4 years of related construction experience, or
-
Red Seal Mechanical or Electrical Journeyperson with a minimum of 4 years of related construction experience.
Technical Knowledge & Skills
-
Ability to read, interpret, and apply construction drawings, specifications, and standard construction methods and procedures.

Working knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, principles, and practices.

Understanding of building systems scopes of work and the coordination of trade activities.
Project Coordination & Delivery
-
Experience supporting project scheduling, including tracking progress and assisting with resource planning.

Basic understanding of construction planning and sequencing.

Ability to review contract documents and identify issues for escalation to the project team.
Communication & Collaboration

Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to work collaboratively with project teams, consultants, and trade contractors.
Tools & Systems
-
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).

Working knowledge of scheduling software preferrable (eg. MS Project).

Compensation Transparency
Expected Salary: $75,000–$105,000 plus bonus based on experience and education.
The base salary range for this role is listed above and may vary based on your experience. This position also includes a competitive bonus program. Throughout the interview process, we’ll discuss your background to determine the best alignment for your experience level.
