Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry, secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSS–related work, Seaspan Shipyards is owning the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians.
The Intern, Design Build provides a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of Engineering, Production Planning, and Shipyard Operations within one of North America’s most complex shipbuilding environments. Unlike a traditional engineering internship focused solely on design activities, this role offers direct exposure to how engineering information is transformed into executable vessel construction strategies and production workflows. Working alongside production planners, engineers, and operations teams, the intern will support real-world shipbuilding activities including build strategy development, construction sequencing, workflow planning, production coordination, and Design for Production (DFP) initiatives. The role is ideal for candidates interested in understanding how large-scale engineering projects move from concept and design into physical construction and execution within an active shipyard environment.
This position offers hands-on exposure to vessel construction planning, cross-functional coordination, production engineering processes, and operational problem solving across multiple stages of shipbuilding execution.
Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.
