The Team:
The BC Geological Survey (BCGS) is a multidisciplinary team of geoscientists and technical experts dedicated to generating and sharing authoritative geoscience knowledge for the Province. The team conducts field and analytical research, produces maps and data, and maintains provincial geoscience databases to support mineral exploration, land use planning, and responsible resource development. Working collaboratively across specialized groups, from regional geologists to data and publication experts, the BCGS plays a key role in providing trusted information that informs decision making and attracts investment in British Columbia’s mineral sector.
The Role:
The Science Editor is the senior geoscientist responsible for leading the Province’s geoscience publication process, ensuring all maps, reports, and data products meet rigorous scientific and technical standards. This role oversees peer review, editing, and production while delivering clear, reliable information to academic, industry, and investment audiences to support mineral exploration. The position also manages the Survey’s publication catalogue, coordinates key outreach such as the BCGS Open House, and develops materials that promote Survey products, initiatives, and Ministry priorities.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Registered, or immediately eligible for registration (within six (6) months of employment), as a Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) with Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (EGBC). Confirmation of registration/eligibility is required before an offer of employment can be made.
- A Master of Science Degree in Geoscience (preferred), Physical Geography, or Environmental Science and three (3) years of relevant academic or government science experience; or
- A Bachelor of Science Degree in Geoscience, Physical Geography, or Environmental Science with at least five (5) years of relevant academic or government science experience.
- An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be considered.
- Experience in the development of research plans and conducting geoscience studies for publication.
- Experience completing geoscience fieldwork, editing and managing the production of highly technical geological publications, and/or marketing scientific information particularly relevant.
- A minimum of five (5) peer-reviewed government or scientific journal publications.
- Preference may be given to those with experience reviewing and editing scientific literature.

About this Position:
There is currently one (1) permanent, full time position available.
Remote work is allowed. This position can work up to full time from their home in British Columbia subject to an approved Telework Agreement. The locations listed above are to assist applicants in searching for this opportunity and are not a complete list of locations.
