Your Opportunity
An immediate opening exists in the Vancouver Office of our Western Canada Transportation Group for a Transportation EIT. Our team provides a comprehensive package of Railway Engineering services including Projects Management, Systems Engineering, Railway Signaling, Communications and regulatory approvals.
We will support your career goals by aligning project opportunities with your development needs, helping you progress toward Professional Engineer recognition with EGBC through mentoring, training, and hands-on rail project experience.
Our clients include Transit Managers, Maintainers and Operators. We also support Class 1 railways (CN, CP, BNSF) together with agencies supporting the industry.
Our projects involve railway capacity expansions, network growth, control centers upgrades and expansions, maintenance studies, strategic planning, and transit system design & integration. Services range from conceptual and preliminary design planning studies, to detailed design & preparation of procurement packages, through to engineering support during construction.
Our intent is to grow the Rail and Transit Sector significantly across the company and this is an opportunity to drive your career in the field of Rail and Transit reporting to the Rail and Transit Team Lead, the EIT role will be focused on gaining the experience necessary to secure your professional engineering license.
Your Key Responsibilities
The key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Perform systems engineering principles including systems breakdown, integration plans, interface control documents, requirements development and system assurance.
- Support preliminary and detailed design of signaling and train control systems and related communication and supervisory systems.
- Support development of design packages for procurement and construction.
- Provide technical specifications, tender packages, staging and detail schedule of works.
- Prepare test procedures and commissioning plans for signal installation and operation.
- Understand and follow the client’s documentation as well as regulatory codes and standards.
- Provide technical data and timely support to internal and external customers when required.
- Monitor technical performance of design and ensure all milestones are met.
- Coordinate with all other discipline leads and provide proposal support as required.
- Manage the quality of work in accordance with Stantec’s quality plan and obtaining the required technical sign off and approvals both internally and from external agencies.
- Meet job/project deadlines as determined in conjunction with the project schedule.
- Perform engineering tasks according to corporate safety policies standards and procedures.
- Duties may be modified from time to time however it shall be consistent with the position.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Experience with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD
- Experience with systems requirements software (DOORS, JAMA)
- Experience with model-based systems engineering software (MagicDraw)
- Proficient with Microsoft Office software including WORD, EXCEL.
- Experience with object-oriented programming languages is considered an asset.
- Problem-solving abilities to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner and to gather and analyze information skillfully.
- Prioritizes and plans work activities effectively; uses time efficiently and develops realistic action plans.
- Self-motivated
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree (eligible for registration as an EIT) in any of: Electrical Engineering; Computer Systems Engineering; Mechatronics / Robotics; Biomedical Engineering; or Mechanical Engineering
- Prior railway or LRT experience is considered an asset. Although individuals without railway or LRT experience are highly encouraged to apply.
Typical office environment working with computers and field work may be included exposure to elements including inclement weather. We will ask as part of your development to work in the field safety training and equipment will be provided.

Pay Range:
- Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$67,100.00 - $93,900.00 Annually
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
