ToolKit Development Contractor for Animal Lifeline Emergency Response Team (ALERT)

Term: Contract position

Start Date: August 2026 Timeline: 8 weeks from contract start

Remuneration: $10,000

The Animal Lifeline Emergency Response Team is seeking an independent contractor to design and produce a practical easy-to-use ToolKit that explains how ALERT operates and what communities need to do to start an Animal Response Team in their area. The ToolKit will be used by local coordinators, partner organizatins, volunteers and community leaders to launch, run and sustain actvities.

The Animal Lifeline Emergency Response Team (ALERT) is a not-for-profit dedicated to animal welfare through the preparation for and the actual evacuation, rescue and shelter of domestic animals and livestock in a disaster. Volunteers are mobilized when local and/or provincial authorities request ALERT’s expertise.

Scope of Work

· Meet with ALERT leadership to clarify goals, audience, scope, and key messaging

· Audit existing ALERT materials, templates, policies, training content

· Develop a structured ToolKit that includes step-by-step guidance, templates, checklists, role descriptions, and recommended processes for community launch and ongoing operations

· Produce content in plain language for multiple users

· Create edible templates (Google Docs/Microsoft Word/printable PDFs) and a concise slide deck for orientation

· Design a short orientation/training module (self guided and facilitator-led options) plus a 60–90-minute launch workshop agenda

· Include guidance on community engagement, data, privacy best practices, evaluation/monitoring, and sustainability/funding tips

· Produce a resource appendix: sample MOUs, contact lists, referral protocols, risk/safety guidance and links to templates and other resources

· Incorporate feedback from two rounds of stakeholder review and revise accordingly

· Provide final package for distribution

Qualifications

· Proven experience developing TookKits, playbooks for operations guides for community programs, nonprofits, or public-sector initiatives

· Strong writing/communication and instructional design skills, ability to produce plain-language content

· Graphic design skills

· Portfolio of similar work and references

· Ability to meet deadlines

· Must be located in the Central/South Okanagan region of BC
