We are seeking a dedicated and organized School Kitchen Manager to join the Providence team in a full-time, permanent, 10-month position beginning August 17, 2026, and ending June 25, 2027. Regular working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with occasional evening work required to support special events and functions. It is a condition of employment at Providence that all employees are vaccinated against COVID-19.
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Executive Manager, Operations, the School Kitchen Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operation of Providence's school kitchens. This hands-on role oversees food preparation, ordering, inventory management, purchasing, receiving deliveries, and kitchen maintenance. The School Kitchen Manager ensures food service operations are carried out safely, efficiently, and in compliance with Alberta Health Services regulations. Responsibilities include preparing and distributing food, monitoring inventory and supplies, supporting kitchen staff, maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards, and helping ensure smooth and consistent operations across all Providence locations.

Responsibilities Include:
- Prepare and distribute daily snacks for approximately 300 children, including high-volume baking of cookies, muffins, special dietary items, and other nutrition program requirements.
- Plan, organize, and oversee food preparation activities to ensure quality standards and production deadlines are consistently met.
- Prepare and serve food for special events, staff functions, volunteer appreciation events, board meetings, and other organizational gatherings, including occasional evening support.
- Collaborate with the Executive Manager, Operations to develop snack menus, accommodate special dietary requests, and manage the assigned food service budget.
- Manage food purchasing, inventory control, ordering, receiving, and storage to ensure adequate supply levels and cost-effective operations.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with food suppliers to ensure quality products and best value.
- Maintain stock levels of food, beverages, and related supplies for the Windsor Park location, including kitchen, staff, and boardroom requirements.
- Ensure compliance with Alberta Health Services regulations, food safety standards, sanitation requirements, and organizational policies across all Providence kitchen locations.
- Monitor food storage practices, inventory rotation, expiration dates, and overall kitchen cleanliness to maintain a safe and sanitary environment.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot kitchen equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications, coordinating repairs as required.
- Support satellite school locations through regular communication, site visits, deliveries, and collaboration with Site Coordinators to ensure consistent kitchen operations and regulatory compliance.
- Coordinate and complete deliveries of food, kitchen supplies, and other materials between Providence locations as required.
- Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and sanitation of the kitchen, staff lunch areas, laundry facilities, and kitchen office space.
- Provide laundry services at the Windsor Park location, including washing, drying, folding, distributing towels, and supporting classroom supply needs.
- Assist satellite locations with laundry pick-up, delivery, and related support services as required.
- Identify, address, and report kitchen-related occupational health and safety concerns and participate in maintaining a safe working environment for staff and children.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support food service and operational requirements across Providence locations.
Physical Requirements
- Physical capability for frequent heavy lifting and moving up to 25KG
- Required to stand, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms
- Ability to move quickly over a short distance with no warning to prevent an accident (3 metres to 5 metres)
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma.
- Valid Alberta Food Safety Certificate.
- Food preparation is an asset.
- Proficient in the use of MS Office Suite - Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Experience working within a school based environment preferred
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s license. You will also be required to submit a Driver’s Abstract.
- Occupational Health and Safety Experience, including knowledge of codes.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
