CGI is seeking an experienced Senior Backend Platform Developer to join our team and help design, build, and evolve production-grade backend systems and cloud-native platforms. This role is ideal for a senior software professional with deep expertise in Go, strong Node.js development experience, and a solid understanding of AWS cloud services, CI/CD, and engineering automation. As a key member of the engineering team, you will contribute to the architecture, development, deployment, and operational excellence of scalable backend services while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, reliable, and high-performing solutions. Beyond technical expertise, we are looking for someone who brings sound engineering judgment, challenges assumptions constructively, and helps elevate team decision-making through thoughtful collaboration and technical leadership. This is a full-time permanent opportunity based in one of CGI's Atlantic Canada offices, including Halifax, NS; Moncton or Fredericton, NB; Stratford, PEI; or St. John's, NL, with a hybrid work model requiring three days per week onsite.
Your future duties and responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and distributed systems using Go.
- Contribute to full-stack application development using Node.js and React.
- Design and implement secure, reliable REST APIs and backend services.
- Build, maintain, and optimize cloud-native solutions using AWS services and modern cloud engineering practices.
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and engineering tooling.
- Create and maintain Bash scripts and automation solutions to improve development and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with architects, developers, product owners, and business stakeholders to deliver high-quality software solutions.
- Participate in architecture reviews, code reviews, technical design discussions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Identify technical risks, performance bottlenecks, and architectural improvements early in the software development lifecycle.
- Mentor team members, promote engineering best practices, and contribute to technical documentation and knowledge sharing.
Required qualifications to be successful in this role
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Significant professional experience developing enterprise backend or platform solutions.
- Strong hands-on experience developing production-grade backend services using Go.
- Experience with full-stack or backend development using Node.js.
- Experience developing modern web applications using React.
- Strong understanding of AWS cloud services and cloud-native application development.
- Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
- Strong scripting experience using Bash or similar scripting languages.
- Experience designing and developing REST APIs and scalable distributed systems.
- Experience working within Agile software development environments.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to communicate technical trade-offs effectively, work independently, and contribute positively to technical discussions and decision-making.

The following qualifications would be considered assets:
- Experience with distributed systems, platform engineering, or cloud infrastructure.
- Experience working with both legacy and modern cloud-native architectures.
- Experience with container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience improving software reliability, observability, and operational excellence.
- Experience mentoring software developers and providing technical leadership.
- Experience working within financial services or other highly regulated industries.
CGI is providing a reasonable estimate of the pay range for this role. The determination of this range includes factors such as skill set level, geographic market, experience and training, and licenses and certifications. Compensation decisions depend on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $75,000-$145,000 CAD. This role is an existing vacancy.
