Location - This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person work at North Campus, Edmonton.
Reporting to the Operations Manager, this position works with a variety of stakeholders from across the Faculty to ensure that space and facility requirements are proactively managed to address the changing curriculum, technology, and special initiatives of these diverse areas. The facilities include research studios, laboratories, performance spaces, offices, classrooms, commons spaces, and all other Faculty space and occupy over 58,000 sq metres of space across fourteen buildings. The position is also responsible for managing a planning process for the renewal of capital requirements across the Faculty, including the space, facilities, and equipment necessary to effectively deliver Faculty programs. The position also has responsibility for the security, and health and safety initiatives of a diverse and complex set of stakeholders with a broad range of requirements.

Works with University Services and Operations to communicate, negotiate, and advocate for the Faculty’s facility needs.

Coordinates and directs short- and long-range planning of the inventory, assessment, acquisition, allocation, and development of facilities within the Faculty.

Leads the development of a strategic facility plan that supports the Faculty of Arts strategic directions and the operations of the academic departments, and centres, and institutes within Arts.

Evaluates all capital priorities, and prioritizes all renovations, alterations, and new space requests to accommodate short- and long-term needs.

Coordinates an annual planning process to identify capital requirements of the Faculty; capital in this context includes space, facilities, as well as major and minor equipment.

Provides advice and guidance in developing project scopes and/or to the procurement of capital assets. Liaises with other experts within and outside the Faculty.

Maintains an inventory of capital equipment (major and minor) owned by the Faculty, including the age of assets, position in lifecycle, and project capital needs over the short and long term.

Facilitates the planning phase of projects with appropriate parties. Acts as the Faculty liaison throughout the construction phase of the project, including preparing the site, coordinating and communicating with the project manager, and providing updates as necessary to the Faculty General Manager, Operations Manager, and other affected stakeholders.

Serves as the project manager for Faculty-funded projects, including determining the scope of work, project planning, and all aspects of coordinating the work (site preparation, decanting of space, site inspections, move-in/out).

Coordinates with University of Alberta Protective Services and internal stakeholders to manage any security incidents. Ensures all incidents are reported and documented and coordinates any follow-up actions as necessary (repairs, reports, security enhancements).

Serves as the point of contact for all emergency response activities and is responsible for implementation of health, safety and environment initiatives, training and advising all levels of the Faculty to sustain the desired safety behaviors and outcomes.

Chairs the Faculty Health and Safety Committee and may serve as an advisor or member on sub-committees.

Plans, organizes, and participates in inspections of Faculty work areas and equipment. Participates in the development and presentation of recommendations to Department and Faculty leaders.
