Aecon Water is a national leader in the delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure, specializing in the planning, construction, and rehabilitation of critical municipal and regional systems. We provide clients across Canada with end‑to‑end solutions, combining technical expertise, self‑perform capabilities, and a strong focus on safety, quality, and project delivery excellence.
Reporting to the Construction Manager, the Civil Superintendent is responsible for ensuring that projects are completed on schedule, in compliance with the contracts and the job cost estimates and all the work is completed safely to acceptable standards of quality and workmanship.
What You'll Do Here:
- Participate in bid review processes to verify estimated production, constructability, and quantities.
- Lead field execution of civil scopes with a strong emphasis on concrete works, earthworks, and structural components.
- Review and interpret shop drawings, IFC drawings, rebar drawings, and specifications to ensure work is executed accurately.
- Oversee and coordinate concrete placement activities, ensuring compliance with project specifications and quality standards.
- Monitor and interpret concrete testing (e.g., slump, air content, compressive strength results) and take corrective action as required.
- Work with EHS representatives to create and uphold project/site-specific safety programs and policies.
- Maintain a positive project culture, supporting team engagement and performance through regular communication and mentorship.
- Act as the construction lead in collaboration with PMO, Quality, Design, and Project Controls teams for project setup and execution.
- Interface professionally with client representatives, providing routine updates and addressing field-related concerns.
- Develop and manage detailed construction and look-ahead schedules, ensuring labour, equipment, and materials are aligned with project needs.
- Identify project risks and collaborate with project teams on mitigation strategies.
- Manage scope changes and support change management processes related to schedule, materials, and subcontractors.
- Coordinate with subcontractors, union representatives, and regulatory bodies to ensure seamless execution of work.
- Foster an inclusive work environment that promotes diversity, equity, and belonging.
What You Bring to the Team:
- Minimum 5+ years of on-site construction experience, including leadership of crews on civil or industrial projects.
- Strong experience in industrial construction environments, particularly with civil scopes such as concrete, foundations, and structural work.
- Concrete experience is considered a strong asset and preferred, including exposure to placing, finishing, curing, and quality control processes.
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret shop drawings, rebar drawings, and construction specifications.
- Working knowledge of concrete testing procedures, standards, and interpretation of test results.
- Applicable technical training through trade certification or post-secondary education in construction, civil engineering, or related discipline.
- Proven leadership experience managing trade and/or non-trade teams in a construction environment.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to coordinate multiple work fronts in a fast-paced, complex project setting.
- High level of professionalism when working with internal teams, clients, and external stakeholders.
