LOCATION: YYZ

POSITION TYPE: PART TIME

As BOH Supervisor, you are a key member of the kitchen leadership team, supporting the Sous Chef and Executive Chef in running a safe, efficient, and high-quality kitchen. You provide hands-on supervision to line and prep cooks during service, coach and develop culinary staff, and help uphold food quality, food safety, and cost control standards. This role blends culinary execution with people leadership, acting as a shift-level point of accountability in the kitchen when senior chefs are not on-site.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervise and coordinate line and prep cooks during assigned shifts, assigning stations and adjusting coverage as volume demands
Act as manager-on-duty for kitchen operations in the absence of the Sous Chef or Executive Chef, escalating significant issues appropriately
Oversee food preparation and plating to ensure consistency with recipes, portioning, and presentation standards
Monitor and enforce food safety and sanitation practices in line with Ontario public health requirements
Support onboarding and training of new kitchen staff, including coaching on technique, speed, and station standards
Provide day-to-day feedback and address performance or conduct concerns at the shift level, escalating formal disciplinary matters to the Sous Chef, Executive Chef, or HR as appropriate
Assist with inventory counts, receiving, and stock rotation, and flag shortages or quality issues to the Sous Chef
Support scheduling input and shift coverage planning in coordination with kitchen leadership
Oversee opening and closing procedures and ensure checklists are completed and signed off
Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant kitchen in accordance with health and safety regulations and company policy
Support the Sous Chef with menu execution, prep lists, and special event or catering requirements
Respond to guest feedback related to food quality in real time and communicate recurring issues to leadership

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum 2-3 years of experience in a professional kitchen, including demonstrated experience leading or coordinating a shift or station team
Culinary certification or Red Seal designation is an asset, but not required, if compensated by strong hands-on experience
Valid Food Handler Certification (or willingness to obtain within a defined onboarding period)
Strong working knowledge of food safety standards, kitchen equipment operation, and cooking techniques
Demonstrated ability to train, coach, and provide constructive feedback to team members
Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities during high-volume service
Clear and professional communication skills, with the ability to give direction and represent kitchen leadership to staff, front-of-house, and guests
Sound judgment in escalating issues that require input from the Sous Chef, Executive Chef, or HR
Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
Physical stamina and ability to stand, move, and work in a fast-paced kitchen environment for extended periods, including lifting objects up to 50 pounds

AVAILABILITY REQUIREMENTS

This role requires flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. Typical shifts range between 4–8 hours and extend into late night hours.
