Full job description

Job Summary
Rideau Retirement Residence is seeking a friendly and dedicated Casual Server to join our team. The ideal candidate will provide exceptional food service to our residents, ensuring a warm and welcoming dining experience. This role involves assisting with meal service, food handling, and maintaining a clean and safe environment in accordance with health and safety legislation and organizational standards. Experience in assisted living, retirement residence, long term care, hospitals, or the food industry is preferred, but a strong customer service orientation and willingness to learn are essential. The position has a direct contribution to the residents positive dining experience and to their quality of life.

This role offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our residents while developing valuable skills in food service and healthcare environments.

RESPONSIBILITIES

· Responsible for all aspects of hospitality style dining service as it applies to the serving areas, setting, serving and cleaning tables;

· Responsible for maintaining the dining room and bistro/café areas in a tour ready manner;

· Assists with the preparation and presentation of food under the direction of the Chef;

· Responsible for tray preparation/presentation;

· Carries out general cleaning duties and routines, including scraping, washing, stacking and storage of dishes;

· Practices and maintains established standards for cleanliness and sanitation throughout all aspects of food preparation and service as required by the health department;

· Promotes and tracks a la carte and wine service sales in accordance with prescribed procedures;

· Complies with all provincial regulations, established food and beverage department policies and procedures and standards to ensure the department is tour ready;

· Advises supervisor or designate immediately of all team member incidents that may result in an Occupational Accident Claim, any concerns with the physical dining room, incidents or injuries and completes required reports;

· Follows all health and safety policies and procedures. Works safely to reduce the risk of injury to self, co-workers, and residents;

· Wears personal protective equipment as designated;

· Maintains a clean, safe environment for residents utilizing infection control principles;

· Maintains a sound working knowledge of their role & responsibilities during all Emergency situations when working different shifts;

· Participates in drills to prepare for emergencies and attends all education sessions in relation to emergency preparedness.

· Work in accordance with the organization’s Health and Safety Policies and Procedures and in compliance with WorkSafeBC;

· Perform other duties as required.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

· Must one year experience in dining room service;

· Must have Valid Criminal Record Check (Regular & Vulnerable Sector)

· Must have valid Food Safe Handling Certification;

· Must have valid Serving It Right Certification;

· Must have valid WHMIS Certification

· Ability to work independently and/or as a member of a team;

· Experience working with seniors and knowledge of the aging process an asset;

· Proven customer service skills;

· Effective verbal and written English communication skills required;

EDUCATION

· Minimum grade 10

WORKING CONDITIONS

· Interaction with male and female residents of all ethnic and cultural backgrounds;

· Combination of natural light and fluorescent lighting;

· Exposure to the elements (external building and property);

· Exposure to variable temperatures both hot and cold;

· Lifting alone and with assistance;

· Pushing/pulling content;

· Crouching, kneeling, stooping/bending for short periods of time;

· Walking and climbing stairs frequently;

· Standing for long periods of time;

· Engagement and/or exposure to various therapy programs focused on providing residents with the highest quality of life in our Homes including but not limited to pet therapy, spiritual events and musical therapy

Pay: $20.04 per hour
